CURIOUS!!!!! WHAT DO YOU DO FOR THANKSGIVING?

I ALWAYS MAKE DINNER, MORE LIKE LUNCH, WE EAT AT NOON. WE MAKE ALL SORTS OF DISHES,SIDES, DESSERTS. EVERYONE HAS THERE FAVORITE. I LOVE CARROTS AND TURNIPS MASHED WITH BUTTER/ SALT PEPPER AND MASHED SWEET POATOES WITH A PRALINE TOPPING, YUMMY...THEN WE ALL GO TO MOM'S FOR DESSERT. SHE FEEDS THE BROTHERS THAT HAVE NO PLACE TO GO OR THEY ARE TO LAZY TO COOK FOR THEMSELVES. WE GET THERE BETWEEN 2-3, STAY UNTIL 5, HAED TO INLAWS TO EAT OR NOT EAT.WE ALSO PULL NAMES FOR SECRET SANTA AT MOM'S AND IN LAWS.
BUSY DAY. WE START WEEKS AHEAD OF TIME, MAKE PIES, FREEZE, MAKING DOUGHS. IT IS EASIER.

SO WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS?
YOUR TRADITIONS?
YOUR FAVORITE DISH?

My husband makes the turkey (in a brown paper bag) and I do the rest of the meal..we have family and anyone of my daughter's friends that doesnt have anywhere to go over and we slect a movie to watch while everyone eats

i always cook but this year we are going to a neighbors home last year his wife died and he didn't want to be alone so he invited his brother and my husband i will make a pie and make the turkey gravy.we would love to be with our kids but they all go out and its a 2 hr drive and i don't like comming home in the dark.

We have been going out for Thanksgiving the passed few years.Our married son always goes to his in-laws for Thanksgiving.We have our family meals on Sundays.I fix dessert for Thanksgiving,so when we come home we enjoy dessert with coffee.I enjoy the holidays more because I can come home after a nice ride and enjoy watching movies with my husband and other son with very little clean up.Then on Sunday I'll fix our Thanksgiving meal for the whole family:)

sorry about your neighbors wife. the holidays are tough when you lose a love one.it is nice that he has the 2 of you and his brother. nice of you to help out.have you decided what type of pie? homemade gravy? why don't you stay at the kids place. that can get tricky. 2hrs is a long ride on a full stomach.

that sounds nice.someone else can do the dishes.any special desserts? you should use disposable plates, saves time so you can be with the others. i cook, others can wash, it is only fair....enjoy your day

LOL!!! I agree, Elsie!! We eat and eat, too!! Usually too stuffed for dessert so we end up having to have that later in the day!
We generally go to my sister or brother's home for the day. But wherever we go, there is always LOTS and LOTS of great food to eat!!! Including two or three varieties of pies!!
My favorites would be turkey, stuffing, peas, homemade biscuits and gravy!!
It's also a day to give thanks to the Lord for the many blessings over the past year. True, everyday hasn't been peachy and we've had our problems and difficulties, but there is still always much to be thankful for.
God bless all of you and may you all enjoy a truly wonderful Thanksgiving with your families and loved ones!

You never said what you were doing...Yes,Carol, it is a perfect day to thank God and all the wonderful people in our lives.To remember what is important. Our families and friends.Just having a nice day together.... oh, yes, my son reminded me....to watch football... i love the macy's parade. My fiance and myself will be helping at the large dinner that is put on for the homeless, less fortunate,single ,married, anyone.we peel veggies,help any where we can. we will go to my parents.My grandma will be allowed to come home for the weekend. she is doing much better.started the several dozen pies i bake for us and the dinner.i also make breads, rolls, etc.
we love the holidays, there is a greater need for donations to the less fortunate this year. I know so many are hurting.I love all the food.The turkey has to be moist, seasoned just right. homemade everything all the way..Happy Holidays to all.I will be busy from now on, I'am not sure when I will be back on the site.Enjoy my friends....Take a w alk after you eat, or before.It does help.

I have used a brown paper bag before and it works great. Just put in a small glass or cup of water inside and close the bag to keep in the steam. It sure beats basting.....

do you cook it at a certain temp? the bag does not burn? i use the reynolds turkey size bags.i do not have to baste at all. it comes out moist. for the last 2 yrs. i have bee brining the birds, they are even moister.martha stewart has great recipes for brine.I used apple cider once, not bad. so tell me of the brown bag trick please.

Cook, cook, cook, all the family on my side meets for dinner at noon at my mothers . We each bring our dishs that we made. We have 2 buffet tables one for the Turkey and all the sides and one for desserts. We all gather around say the thanks then dig in , enjoy and visit for hours. Oh the fun and memories. I am so thankful for my family!!!

We have all the holidays at our house----Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc. The last couple of years my sons have been helping me since my husband can't do because of the MS. There are the four of us and my two brothers. My husband's sister is a paraplegic and my sons bring her food, also bring food to her aide, she has someone with her 24 hours a day (a live-in) and we also bring food for her elderly tenant who lives upstairs from her. My one brother will not eat chicken or turkey; so in addition to the turkey I have to make a ham or roast beef for him. We also make white potatoes and sweet potatoes, salad, lots of different kinds of vegetables, olives, breads, and other things which I can't think of right now. All kinds of desserts---pies, cookies, etc.

Enjoying reading everyone's Thanksgiving plans here! It's family-time for most and that is great!
I agree, Hunter.....dessert is the best part! Love those pies my sister makes...my sister-in-law, too, when we go to their house! Nothing like good old homemade pies!! Yum!
Gus, that's great that you and your fiance will be helping out with the dinner for the homeless. For me, that is the saddest part about holidays....Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.....thinking about the many folks in our country who are homeless and go without. It's terrific, too, that your grandma is coming home for the weekend!! Bless her heart! I truly hope she enjoys her time spent with you and the family!

Not real sure what I 'am doing.I have been invited to different places.Open standing invite to my friends home.His family got me through some real tough times when I was younger. I end up going to the hose for dessert.His wonderful momalways has a large plate of chocolate cookies for me.I consider them family...I may go to some other teachers homes as well...Your plans sound great.
