Did you know this?Corn syrup is a food syrup, which is made from the starch of maize and contains varying amounts of maltose and higher oligosaccharides, depending on the grade. Corn syrup is used in foods to soften texture, add volume, prevent crystallization of sugar, and enhance flavor. Corn syrup is distinct from high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which is created when corn syrup undergoes enzymatic processing, producing a sweeter compound that contains higher levels of fructose.
Thanks for the info. I put a small amount of corn syrup in any kind of icing I make. It helps the icing to "set up", I think it also keeps the icing fresher for a longer time.
I have always had corn syrup on hand ( my mom's oldest sister said to always have some because you never know when you might need it, I never asked why, I just remember my mom buying some now & then saying she was almost out & she better buy some so not to run out ). Another aunt borrowed some from my mom saying the twins were still not feeling good & she used hers up in their water (I was about 5 & thought the bath water & they laughed & said in their bottles). I keep hearing about the High Fructose Corn Syrup & wanted to know if it was the same corn syrup I have been buying for 45 yrs. & since I learned something new, I thought I would post the info.
