GRANA here;
Hi TINA K;
How poetic you are; not rhyming but such picturesque descriptions; makes me wantto seethe NORTHWOODS" I don't know where that t is, please  direct me: which coast or  border; anything to pin point your location.You seem to truly love & appreciate where you live; fortunate since like most of us you must stay there  "forever"Cool

In Response to COLD & SNOW BUT IT'S OH SO WORTH IT!:
 The winters here in Northwoods are very cold & snowy had some snow today but not too cold about 30  supposed to get more snow Tuesday night thru Wednesday and Wednesday night on out at least for the next few nights itwill be below 0 BUT,, ours springs summers and falls are glorious there are maybe 5 or 6 days the entire summer where it is uncomfortable sitting out on our deck barbecuing or having a cup of coffee or glass of tea and most days  our humidity is low. the falls are cool(60 days  40-55 nights) and dry low humidity, leaves are orange yellow brown & red can not be truly captured with a camera or paint brush  our springs are lush and most times in the 60s & or low 70s baby greens with  blooming cherry trees  apple trees lilacs fill the air with perfume winding roads rolling hills, beautiful birch trees  spruce and huge evergreens  maples & oaks blue clear lakes are everywhere  tulip gardens of every color are popular up here  Fresh asparagus and rhubarb greet us as a reward every spring

Tina, sounds lovely.  There are some things that only grow well in the north.  Having grown up in the north I try to grow some of the things from there, but they don't do as well.  Sounds like you may be in MN

Tina, I am in north west Illinois, I loved your description but for me....the ideal winter would be......
Snow.......
.........Sun.........
................70's.........

I don't mind the snow  but I dislike the dreary days that come with winter.
If the snow would fall all around the house and miss the driveway and the front steps I would like the snow more.

I have a way to fake myself through the winter though
For the most part November and December are not that bad, not much snow and most cold days are few and far between.
December 21 the shortest day of the year also means that the days begin to get longer.
January we can get some pretty cold days and a bit of snow but by then the days are getting longer. And the sun makes it not so bad.
February a very short month and the days are much longer by then.
March, almost spring and any snow would probably not last long.
See...winter is over before you know it...

I do not like snow!!   Well, I could put up with it if it fell on lawns but never hit a street.

I grew up with the cold and snow in Iowa, then moved to the mountains of Colorado, but have been in southern California since 1975. No more cold, snow, tornadoes, ice, or mosquitos for me, thank you very much.

I spent so many winters - long, hard winters - in North Dakota.  Lovely state with lovely people but I do not miss that snow and cold.

Tina I will take your house and views and they are beautiful!!!! and move them to Tennessee or Kentucky that way I can get the view and the lake or river but not have as cold of a winter.  The Carolina's or Georgia would not be a bad choice either but then I think I would want ocean view but then I would have to worry about huricaines.

Oh, Tina -- how I would love to show it off - lol.    Funny thing - I wore it to church Wednesday night on no one said a word.  I wore it to the Toyota shop and two separate men threw a fit over it.  I gotta' get a camera that works.

And , while ago I was so tickled with the peanut brittle I made - I wished for a camera.

Hate to tell you that it was not the pretty, decorated top that you wore but the prospect of getting cookies and candy!  I just know you bring cookies to them as well Wink

Oh, great! not very encouraging....I would really love to get away from the cold and the snow but you make Tennessee sound like a not great place.....maybe that is why "we" started in New England and worked our way across this great country each of wave of settlers looking for the "ideal" place.   Maybe like Dorothy all we have to do is click our heals and say...there's no place like home...there's no place like home..there's no place like home... in reality home is where the heart is and the ideal is where you are happy not just because of the cold, ice, snow, humidity or anything else that falls.  I guess everyone deals with some adversity at some point in the year.
