Cinco de Mayo or the 5th of May is right around the  corner.  This day commemorates the victory of the Mexican army's victory over France in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla.  Many people celebrate this with parties, special food, etc.

Do you do anything special on this day?

When my sons were still living at home I would make sour cream chicken enchiladas and frijoles for dinner on the 5th. And if I was REAL ambitious I would add sopapillas with honey to the menu. Now it's just hubby and me, and he doesn't care for Mexican food so much, so I don't usually do anything for that celebration now. Thanks for the history review, Marie!! It's appreciated.

GRANA here;
I always try to serve ethnically appropriate foods:
 chili bean soup; taco salad; enchiladas tacos 0crisp or soft, maybe angria ;fresh fruits, brownies(at every excuse says hubby)Or city is homr to French CanadiansPortoguese  Mill  workers   fishermen years ago, more recently  electronics ( circuits &  software writers from India
; No Mexicans to my knowledge but several restaurants serving typical Mexican foods ( see my l menu list above)
We have newly arrived  middle eastern [Arabs] who seem to be in electronics &  computers( engineers&  software developers)New Englanders ignore strangers even those from nearby states &&   we all live in  peace &  harmony, minding our  own business, This might have to change w/the influx of terrorists&  growing fear of different neighbors.

The Boston Marathon bombing is an example of what &why changes may come about.???????????The 2 brothers were students in Mass. colleges &  both parents resided in the state.I dread the time when a person's religion or skin color makes them a suspect; already  Arab looking people are being ostracized &   attacked by neighbors Frown
