I think that this year i'm going to have an open house on Chrismas Eve day. my town is small so everyone kind of knows each other. I'll just have snacks around & i'm sure that others will bring some food stuff to share. i love get togethers!

The Christmas idea I'm working on right now is all the small Christmas decorated pails.....One for each kid in church school.
I bought a LOT of wrapped candy from Dove chocolates to candy canes.  The candy went into plastic bags and every bag into a pail.
Each pail is decorated with some curling ribbon.
I think I'm almost finished ~whew

In Response to Re: Christmas ideas : Verlee, please thank your son for me for his service.  My husband and I appreciate our military so much and are very grateful to them.  We often attend activities for the Wounded Warriors and Scents for Soldiers.

I have to appreciate the newspaper ad from Nordstrom's department store.  They stated that they would not deck the halls of their stores for Christmas until November 23rd, as they decided they could only celebrate one holiday at a time!!!

I have been getting the recipes as well.  So many great ones that I would love to try but so little time!
I also do not have a place to bring the things I bake anymore. I used to bring all sorts of stuff to work.  I wonder if the Day Care where I bring my husband would like some things...at least for the staff.
I think I will bake and bring them some things tomorrow.
Now to go back and review the recipes that I thought looked good.

nikki,
the staff would generally love treats
but so many places have different rules            by law or whatever that vary state to state
it can be difficult to take anything for patients
both of my older sisters were in a nursing home in buffalo tx at different times recovering and re-habbing from surgeries (femur and hip)      and i took food for them and the staff weekly  and selected patients were allowed to share what i left w/ the staff according to their dietary restrictions

but when my youngest sister was at a small assisted living facility           i could only take food items for my sister  and i had to stay w/ her while she ate       and take all leftovers  with me    even the staff could not share there

before i took anything, i would check w/ them to make sure that even the staff could partake

and i understand that they are not being mean but are adhering to dietary rules made for the patients safety

Every holiday ( this year I counted halloween as a holiday) I take a load of cookies to the local police dept.  I just stick a tiny address label on the plastic wrap so they know who/where they are from.  When I walk into ther building someone from behind the glass has to come out and take them.  A few visits ago the man that came to get them hugged me!
Last time I received a very nice, very lovely "Thank You" card from the Chief of Police.
This year I'll take the Thanksgiving cookies there late Wednesday afternoon.
Christmas will be my next holiday - I'll take cookies and candy,

I would not expect the items to be shared the residents.  I know there are not only dietary needs that must be followed but since the items I bring in would be from "an unapproved source" I know it probably could not be shared.  I will bring in some things on Monday, that will be the next day he goes.
I have been taking him on alternating days M, W, F one week the next week Tue, Th. it gives me a break.  Not sure if it gives him a break or not.  I will probably start to bring him 3 days a week full time in Jan.
