What character or personality traits do you find intolerable?
Discuss all things non-baking
We had a discussion during the holiday, I don't know how it got started, but everyone had an opinion. What personality traits (flaws, actually) do you find intolerable? Habitual lying? Arrogance? Jeal

Now that I have responded to the many wonderful comments. What do I find intolerable...Deceit, when people do not tell the truth and you know that they are lying. My Dad, had a great way of teaching us to be truthful and it works. When I was a child, he used to say that if I told the truth, I wouldn't be punished and he stood by this as well as when he made a promise he kept it. Never promise something that you may not be able to keep. I miss him every day.

Angela, my Dad had the same philosophy.  And I also miss my Dad and my Mom.  I sort of get into a bit of a "funk" around my birthday in February.  I always wonder if they would like the person I became.  They never knew me as an adult.  I often wonder what it would be like to have an adult relationship with my parents.  Then again I don't have the heart ache of watching them age and become dependant on someone else.  Life is one big trade off.

Niki,
I was more fortunate than you since my Mom was 74 when she died and Dad was one month short of his 96th. I cannot believe that we think so much alike. My birthday is also in February. Just reading what you write, I can tell you most definitely that they would be very proud of the woman that you have become.

The trait I dislike the most is not telling the truth.  That has to be the worst one.  It hurts so many people, except the one telling the lies.

I think telling lies does eventually hurt the person telling the lies.  Sort of like the little boy that cried Wolf.  eventually no one believed him when he was telling the truth.
I do believe in some sort of "Karma", or you reap what you sow, oh what a tangled web we weave....
My Dad used to say if you lie you are more apt to do other bad things.

Thank you.
I like to believe that they would be proud and I try to live up to the standards that I remember my Mom and Dad having.  Although I do try to remember that they also made mistakes and that they can not live on a pedestal.

Nobody is perfect and I' m sure all of us are probably guilty of one thing or another.  However, the one trait that really annoyes me is the person that is always late.  Obviously their time is more important than mine, yours, or anyone's.  When we were on a cruise last year there was one couple at our table that was always late.  I felt so sorry for our waiter as it completely fouled up his service to our table.  I just found it very rude and inconsiderate.

I can't stand people that lie or people who pretend to like you and are nice to you just because they want something from you.

Any body who lies to me( for whatever reason) is,in my mind, insulting me; thinking I'm not smart enough to know an"untruth" when I hear one. I prefer honesty(silence s cceptable to) if he truth s too painful)Undecided  [" take the 5th;[I prefer to remain silent]UndecidedI will respect & trust you more inthefuture,  for your honesty ( uncomfortable truth or refusal to lie)Smile

Barbara B.  I so agree with you about people that are late.    I am always early for appointments, some say that is just as bad as being late.  I would much rather wait a bit for someone that have someone wait for me. Plus I always leave a little time incase..incase I get lost, can't find a parking place, get stuck by a train what ever.

Nicki, you and I are birds of a feather!, I was raised to always be on time, or at least early. My husband likes to get places right on time and usually doesn't allow extra time.......it drives me nuts!! After 50 years I am used to it, and have found ways to get him to leave earlier. I can't reveal my secrets!

I fit right in here ... In my entire life I've been late two times .... and I still haven't recovered - lol lol
I think I'm a bit too compulsive about being on time. .... but still not as irritating as someone being late.

I don't like the fact that some people will purposely hurt others.  It just isn't right.

I think rudeness is another trait that has not been mentioned.  But perhaps that is because it goes along with arrogance, or lying or losing your temper.  If people were a bit more polite it would offset many of the problems we face every day.

i don't like when someone lies . like someone makes up a  better job to be the big person in the room . and you know that their job isn't what they say. i will like you better if you just say the truth.
