What are your favorite apples and why?  I order Northern Spy apples from Michigan, as I was born there, and love them for eating and baking.

Up until a year ago I would have said hands down Granny Smith.  But I have seen more and more of the Honeycrisp apples and they are great as well.  A bit pricy now but I am sure in a year or two more the price will come down to where the rest of the apples are.
I love the Granny Smith because it is tart, crisp, and jucy.  The Honeycrisp is juicy a bit sweeter but nice and crisp.
My husbands favorite apple is the Red Delicious, I find them not so crisp and most times a bit mealy. Once in a while we get some that are crisp and juicy but that is few and far between.
I dislike buying apples this time of year, they just do not seem as crisp and juicy.

Honey Crisp for me, and Golden Delicious for Hubby.  Sometimes, he will break down and have a Honey Crisp; but not very often.  I don't eat any other kind of apple since I discovered Honey Crisp the first year they came on the market.  They have them at our Farmer's Market when they are ready to pick, and they are not as pricey as they are in the Grocery Stores.  Love 'em!!

I forgot about the Fuji apple.  That is another one that I will grab at the store if I can not find some nice looking Granny Smith.  Funny thing is contrary to the Granny Smith the Fuji is a sweet apple and I like it just as much.  I think because it is so crisp and juicy.
I like an apple to really "snap" when I bite into it.

I've never met an apple I didn't like, but Gala is one of my favorites.  I use Granny Smith's often, as well.  Like many other bakers, I like a mix of apples in pies.  I sometimes add cranberries to my apple pie, along with some walnuts.

The best apples I like are Red and golden delious. I got hooked on them when we used to go to the Amphitheater in Chicago when i lived there. The display from Washington State had these giant red delious apples for sale at 25 cent each. We would eat them as we walked  around the buiding. Here in Wisconsin we have Honey Crisp which are good but Red Delious are the favorite.
