Peek a Boo.....
Here I am....
Been busy this week as well as last week.  Here is the story.
I stopped by a Hospice facility that has been a presenter in several seminars that I have attended in the past 6 to 9 months.  I just wanted to find out the process and really when and how to find out if my husband is a candidate for Hospice. After a long discussion they said it sounded like he is borderline but would have some one come out to evaluate him.  That visit was done on Thursday of last week and that nurse began the process of enrolling him.  Saturday a nurse came to visit him and take a history she will be the nurse that follows him. I had a Social worker here this morning.  Re assessment will be done at 90 days to determine if he still falls in the Hospice category if they have to drop him he will be able to get Hospice again as he declines more.  I can not imagine many people are dropped by Hospice so I do not anticipate that happening.  What I do like is I am getting better information and the ability to get medication quickly that would have taken a month to get going through his other doctor. The fact that the medical staff comes here rather than me having to take him makes it much less stressful for him.
You all know I will keep you posted.

Trust me I will still be here.  Each and every one of you are rocks for me.  I depend on the communication and getting to vent on occasion.
Thanks for the hugs and well wishes.

I just thought that anyone reading my post might think that death is imminent but at this moment he is "healthy" and at home (and I intend to keep him here as long as I am physically able to care for him).
When people think of Hospice many think that death is a few months away or possibly sooner.  Not always the case.

You and yours are in my prayers, Nikki. My husband's Aunt had alzheimers, so I have some idea of what you are going through. We were able to get her into assisted living, and then their alzheimers unit, so she had good care until the end.

Hoping for the best for your husband, Nikki.  My sister said we should always marry someone at least 10 years younger since it seems that men deteriorate quicker than ladies.  She also said that probably wouldn't work if we married at 20!

I know of no man in his 40's/50's with half a brain that would marry a woman in her 50's or 60's.
And it is almost as bad when we are younger seems like most girls/women go for men that are older.

I don't think I would ever find anyone like him anyway.  I got lucky once that does not happen often let alone twice in a lifetime.

nikki,
good to hear from you
I have experienced hospice care with my sister       and understand how it works   I also know how very hard it is to deal with being sole caregiver for someone w/ any dementia case
it's very good to have them come to you and get things done      especially since they know what to do, how to accomplish it, and help you through all phases of treatments      answering questions no one else can

they provide comfort for the whole family as well
good luck to you and your hubby
you have taken a very good step to getting help

Nikki, glad you are finding some resources that make sense, the medicine is expedited and you can receive the much needed help with the care of your husband.  We'll be listening to hear how things are going and praying for you both and the situation with which you deal daily.  And in the midst of all this, you keep providing us with great tips and recipes.  You are amazing.
