i've been sitting here for about  1 1/2 hrs watching live feed from the   lone star college north campus

apparently 2 students got into an altercation in a hallway  and at least one of them pulled his gun and started shooting   and the other student was wounded  and may also have pulled his gun and shot

at least one person may be dead        one of the students is in custody           the other still on the loose

several swat teams are now searching campus for the other one         a lot of students

and none of this is confirmed

and i'm crazy again

pray for everyone please

Nellie this news also comes to me as unbelievable. I really don't know what is wrong with people anymore. The small town I live in hasn't had much of the activity like I hear about from other places but, as it must, the town is growing and I expect to hear things like this closer to home. I remember growing up and my mother didn't even lock the back door when she was home and I was allowed to wonder around close to home. Now kids can't even go to school and feel safe. I have a friend in another town larger than mine and her son takes a pocket knife to school as protection not as a weapon. He's in high school and I've heard him talking about how he doesn't feel safe. I home schooled my first daughter (she's now 34) as hearing about other schools in other towns made me want to protect her. My other daughter (now 32) begged and begged to go to regular school as she is much more a "joiner" and likes all the things that school can bring so I did let her and my mom was a cook there so it felt safer. Last year I went for a walk in our main downtown area after the stores had closed as window shopping helps take my mind off of walking. After a bit a car full of teenager boys came past real fast and sling shot me with a hard cooked egg. I went to the doc to be looked at as it had gave me a "goose egg" on my forehead. But it's not only teens that seem to be changing. Adults too are getting crazier I think.

Sorry I talked your ear off! It's just this very thing has been bothering me also. The news story of all those little innocent kids getting shot just tore at my heart.

ditto to all that

this is over now          the second guy went to a hospital for treatment and they have now picked him up

lone star is a sort of municipal / county / regional  trade school/junior college  w/ several campuses and 170,000 students
in 40 yrs  this was their first gun incident    they have ent training classes there and a 170 man police force
and were on scene in like 2 mins
their chancellor just stated that they had just completed three seminars for faculty and others
and, while he was aware of the other incidents  and everything coming about gun control  he never dreamed they would become part of the conversation

actually there was 3 people shot          the two in the original altercation  and a maintainance employee of the school       none serious            and one other female student had medical complications and also had to go to hospital
is it good news that it was nothing more than an altercation that; if it had taken place down the street would only have brought a couple off cops and an ambulance?
this incident caused a lockdown of this school     and massive police prescence  and no one knows the cost to individuals down the road
they also locked down  4 public schools in the vicinity   and all those kids and parents also suffered harm and disruption in their lives

and somebody please add up all the man-hours and figure out how much this costs us all in the long run

And ditto to adding up all the time and cost. Seems like we end up paying for the "crazies" out there and paying for the "crazies" in jail and seems like things are just getting more crazy. Do you think that it's perhaps, in some small part, due to the fact that life was easier on some of these younger kids than it was many years ago to us? We learned about chores, patience, honesty, respect for ourselves and others, "making do" with what we had if possible & the list goes on.

Whatever happened to a good old fist fight or better yet some discussion to settle a disagreement?  The unbalanced and criminal element always seem to have guns.

now it is being reported that the first shooter actually shot himself  while trying to stuff the gun down his pants  and the second student  probably did not have a gun    but he sustained several severe wounds and is still critical            the maintenance man has wounds to his legs    and will be ok(?)    the female student suffered a heart attack

and i know if i can suffer anxiety and more just watching this go  down  on tv         what about the have to be  thousands of parents of all those kids in all 5 schools involved, however remotely in this incident  and all the students , having heard seven gunshots and doing their best to hide or escape, think of ptsd on how many?

i was involved in a deadly incident at my college many yrs ago  mary hardin-baylor  in belton, tx in either 62-63
where a day student was being picked up by her mother  because of an ex-fiance     he came to the school and fired a double barrelled shotgun into the windshield,  killing both, re-loaded and put the gun under his chin and killed himself                and even tho i didn't actuually witness this   i ended up having to leave school at christmas vacation             so i have some inkling

Here where I live there are several armed Cleveland police officers in all of our public schools.I'm all for metal detectors too! Forget our privacy I wanted my kids safe.I'm so happy they are both out of high school and I don't have to worry about this..My older boy was held up at the store where he worked at gun point. That is the most terrifying thing in the world to see a loaded gun pointed at you.A woman I worked with, her family owns a gas station. It was held up,the gunman had a gun to a child's head and the owner pulled out his gun and killed the gunman. In this case it was a good thing, not to take a life but to save that child he is a hero in my books. We were brought up owning guns and we learned to respect them and were taught that they were dangerous and not a toy.I think this was the case in many homes when we were growing up.The problem today is that people have no respect for others and not even themselves.

When I heard about this, I was sad.  It is a terrible tragedy and I often wonder what this world is coming to.
