any concern;I've been here & posting daily; but often not til late evenning.I post our MENUS daily & either start a new dicusion/POLL/QUESTION)or eply to a post in any FORUM that "catches my eye"
We've both been sleeping in" or watchingTV under the warm blankets & quilts; till natural heating ( sunshine) takes the chill off. Our family members are all either passed on; elderly/frail or living too far away for getting together; espeially at this time of year  ( snowstorms making road travel treacherous)Rather than let ourisolationget thebetterofus; we enjoy the comfort/companionshiop ofeachopther.ThatiswhyIspendso muchtimecoking& baking:iyt givesusbothpleasure to enjoy traditional foods from our past.
Today forbrunch; I msade blintze ( crepesfiledw/farmer cheeseor blueberries); 30 Years ago I made a fewhundredofthemto celebrteour eldestson'sbar Mitzva( coming of age clebration forJewishmales. Thisyear; hubby bought frozen ones; just bake or saute & enjoy; really pretty good, but so much more costly, than homemade ones..But when closing in on 70 yo & diabled; spending hours preparing a dish that for less than $12 can be bought nearly ready to serve ( @ 2-3 meals) seems like a better value "TIME IS MONEY" seems more true now than ever before .I choose to put my time & 7 efforts into baking cookies (lower fat & carbs than commercialy prepared products, making pot roasts;stews; soups from"nearly" sratch" & eating much smaller portions than we once did;alows ME the luxury of being freed from
spending hours making foods that can often be purchased at a cost near to homemade & tasting pretty close to my best efforts. I'm greatful;that hubby thought it a good value to buy these convenience produts & allow me the free timeto spend onVBB or reading my current book. Greatful, also that we can afford such luxury.
During the many(48 years ) of our mariage; i usually mde everything "fromscratch" ; wether from PRIDE OR STINGINESS I'm not sure.. ..I still get pleasure from saving money by making it myself; but NOW I get a special "THRILL" when I find a ready-made product,so well prepared that I can take the day off & still enjoy really good food. .It's not common to find that we both like "SOMEONE ELSE'S COOKING" Sometimes all it takes, is theaitionofa pinch
of herbs or a little garlic or a drizzleof EVOO or dark Asian sesame oil to mke a commercially prepared food item as good as homemade or better ( for us) than restaurant food; 'cuz it's lower in sodium & fat, w/o giving up any flavor .
Well, NANCY I hope you too have been able to enjoy this holiday season w/ those you love; and have been able to do so w/o wearing yourself out w/preparations( a common side effect of holiday celebrations).

Oh for natural heat again and normal power bills too. I know where you are coming from. I wear a coat and shirt and undershirt around the house now but I'm still comfortable cooking and baking.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas....whether or not you spent it with family and friends. I've been keeping busy so haven't had a lot of time to be here either. When I do have the time, seems that's the time VBB chooses to lag! Oh well, I've just learned to be persistent and keep trying. If I can't get in, I try another time! Happy New Year to you all!!!

It is sort of nice to know that someone is missed if we don't see a post for a while. Maybe there should be a "TAKING A BREAK" section where we can all notify everybody if we are not going to be posting any messages for a while. That way no one will worry.

Nikki, what a terrific idea....a "taking a break" section!!! I like that! Unfortunately, sometimes we don't know we are going to take a break. Today's been the first day I've been here in, I think, exactly a week....for two reasons....been busy, but then when I have tried, I've been unable to even access VBB!! That's been totally frustrating for me! Today I finally got in....tho it took about 25 minutes for the home page to load!!! I sure wish VBB would fix that problem!!
So, since I haven't been here, I'm not sure of all who are missing, but sounds like Julie and Gus might be. I will have to check around here for some of Julie's posts and Preston, you are probably right.....Gus is undoubtedly still on a honeymoon!
