BEING SO CLOSE TO THANKSGIVING I ALWAYS THINK WHAT I'AM GRATEFUL FOR EACH YEAR.IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE SAME,MY PARENTS,MY CAREER AND MY GRANDPARENTS.ESPECIALLY MY DEAR GRANDMA.SOPHIA HAS BEEN TAKING CARE OF ME MY ENTIRE LIFE. MY PARENTS WORKED, MY GRANDPARENTS LIVED WITH US.A GENERATION OF FAMILY IN ONE HOME.
STARTING AT THE AGE OF THREE SHE SAT ME ON THE COUNTER TEACHING ME TO COOK, TO BAKE, EVEN TO SEW.SHE IS AN AMAZING WOMAN.SHE TAUGHT ME TO COOK BY TASTE, SMELL NOT BY A RECIPE.YOU WOULD KNOW IT WAS RIGHT.ALSO A HEFTY DOSE OF LOVE.EVERYTHING SHE MADE WAS WONDERFUL.WHILE WE WERE COOKING MY GRAND POPPA WAS IN THE GARDEN,THE MAN HAS A GREEN THUMB,HE COULD GROW ANYTHING.WE USED IT ALL IN THE KITCHEN, CANNING, GIVING SOME TO NEIGHBORS. THEY WERE WONDERFUL ROLE MODELS.
I ASKED MY GRANDMA FOR RECIPES SHE WOULD ALWAYS SMILE AT ME.SAYING " YOU HAVE THEM IN YOUR HEART" I WOULD REMEMBER HER WRITING ON FADED YELLOW PAPER EACH DAY. PUTTING THEM IN HER SECRET DRAW.I ASKED HER ABOUT HER DRAW WHEN I WAS A TEEN.SHE SAID "IT IS MY SECRET, MY PRIVATE DRAW.SOME DAY I WILL SHOW YOU". I NEVER ASKED AGAIN I RESPECTED HER SECRET DRAW.NO ONE TOUCHED IT.WE SPENT HOURS A DAY OVER THE YEARS IN THE KITCHEN.SHE MADE ME THE MAN I'AM TODAY. A CHEF,HAPPY AND THANKFUL FOR MY LIFE.MY GRANDMA IS IN A HOME FOR THE ELDERS RIGHT NOW.SHE HURT HERSELF. I am thankful for my grandma as well. I am "translating" all her diaries and I just finished 1938-1940. She kept detailed accounts of every thing she baked, cooked or took to family get togethers! I also learned that they mailed...yes, mailed....butter! I am so thankfult that grandma kept a diary and that I am able to read about just how special a woman she was 70+ years ago.

My old pepere kept journals his entire life.When he died my dad got them.My pepleft a note saying he blacked out somethings not to offend anyone.He did it on his death bed. My dad said there was only one sentenced out of all the books.My dad told me about the history.When my dad died his mom wanted them back to distroy.Not sure why.He kept records of everything.Family history.

It's neat to read old journals and diaries like that. My grandfather and my great aunt also kept them and they are very interesting to read. They kept track of what they did day to day, the weather, and many other things.

Gus what a beautiful story, your grandmom sounds amazing. I am thankful for my family for my friends and for all that God has bestowed upon me. Am thankful He never deserted me and was always there for me. Am thankful for Jesus for dying on the cross for us so that we may have eternal life. God has been good a loving Father, sure the road was rough with many pitfalls but with Him beside me I made it and will continue to make it till He calls me home. God bless you all here.

Thank you Sharon, preston everyone else for the well wishes.wedding is going well.we have family coming in from italy, ireland and canada.my grandma is excited, we all are..i'am nervous, i got much to do..i'am very thankful to the people in my life, for my life

Congrats again, Gus!! Natural to be nervous before your wedding but things will go great!! You'll have a perfectly beautiful day...one to always remember and treasure!! Glad grandma is doing better....I can imagine her excitement! Can't wait to hear all about the wedding! Best wishes to you both!!

Gus, you are a fortunate man,you are blessed to have your Grandma.I only knew my Paternal Grandma and only till I was five.Treasure her and her wealth of knowledge,learn from her and pass it on to your children.God bless you and your family.
