Instead of having your kids or grand kids go out Trick or Treating, why not host a gathering of their friends and have a Halloween party where everyone wears a costume.Let the kids help with the preparations of food and decorations.Decorating cookies and cupcakes and other goodies.I started an annual Chili party on our street 18 years ago,one of my neighbors took over for me because of my inability to do this any longer. All the neighbors gather at one home and we pass out our goodies together. Our kids were safe @home and got plenty of goodies and we enjoyed our gather by fireside with a nice bowl of chili. So many passerby's always comment on what a great idea.I always pass out packs of instant hot cocoa, inexpensive and the kids are so excited to get it.It's always nice to warm up with a nice cup of hot cocoa after a hard night of Trick or Treating. All the kids at our party get a whole box of cocoa, a four pack of pudding and a gallon size bag of assorted goodies as my treat to them.Have a safe and Happy Halloween !

Gale, This is such a good idea since it is definitely safer. More and more communities are doing this. Let's keep the little ones safe.

Wow! I sure would have liked to come to your house when I was a kid.  A whole bag of treats at one place and a party too!   LOL

When I was a kid we would go through the neighborhood and there was one house we saved for last.  They would invite everyone in and she had warm apple cider and donuts.  The husband had all types of musical instruments hanging on the walls in the kitchen and living-room.  We would ask him to play one and he would get  down the instrument of choice and play for us. Much easier to get him to get the banjo or guitar down than the bagpipes!
If it started to rain our parents knew where we could be picked up. (It is possible that Mr. and Mrs F even called them to say we were all there and safe.)
The funny thing was all the kids would go from house to house together or we would meet at the start of the road where this family's house was and we would all go together. We all had such a great time.  Since we were all together I am sure our parents never worried.

I always waited until after Halloween and they would mark down the Halloween candy to $1 a bag ,the good chocolate,.My kids always had plenty of candy and I knew it was safe. Some times I still check out the bargain table. For me ! Embarassed I bought candy for the other kids first and waited for marked downs for my kids they never minded because they knew the bounty would be worth wait.

Some local schools & churches have a "Trick or Trunk" party in their parking lot.  The kids dress up & go from car to car.  No worries about traffic or the candy they may get.  Everyone can see who is there & what is given out to the kids too.

"Trunk or Treat" is big here!! Our church does it every year and there is a great turn out!  Plus seeing the music director dressed as Mr. Incredible is priceless!!

I remember one house in our neighborhood where the people gave out nickels.  Of course, those where the days when you could buy a candy bar for 5 cents.

My kids love to go out trick-or-treating.  I'm not sure I could convince them stay home even if they did get treats and had a party.  It sounds like it would be a lot of fun though and a lot safer.

We live in a small, gated community, and know most of the children and vice-versa. So it's safe here. Most of the residents have their lights on for the children, waiting for them to ring that doorbell and receive a treat.

It's not gated communities for me, my neighborhood is condos and apartments, most of which are buildings where you have to have a key just to get in the building, not to forget to get from one floor to another whether by stairs or elevator.  So, neighborhood parties are a great idea for the kids.
