Feb 14 is a Monday. Sunday night, Feb. 13, I'll help the kids at church make a Valentine for their moms .... And I'll have sweet treats for them.

Oh that's sweet Nancy you do spoil those kids, I hope they make you a Valentine also.We have been together 32 years and we are not only husband and wife but best friends.We'll either go out for a nice dinner or I'll make him something that he loves at home.

Nancy, I saw a "Norwegian Proverb" on a box of tea I opened this morning. It must have been written for you,and many others on this site..,
"Cookies are made of butter and love".
(by the way the tea is great, Celestial Seasonings and the flavor is Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride. tastes like a warm sugar cookie in a cup)
What better way for you to help the kids make a Valentine for their moms than to make heart shaped cookies. Not sure if that is what you are going to do but I can bet there will be some heart shaped cookies in your future.

Morning Nicki and everyone, talking about tea have you ever tried the Sugar Plum Spice Celestial Seasoning flavor? I had a hard time finding it during the year except during the holidays so I would stock up with a few boxes because they are soooooo good. I toured the company a few years back and they have all the teas in a gift shoppe at the end of the tour. Before you start the tour they have several types of teas to sample. I was in heaven! When I put my tea's in with my carry on luggage I was singled out and they looked at me like I was smuggling gold. They asked me, "Don't they sell tea in Chicago". My reply was, Well if they did then I made this trip for nothing and I wouldn't be asked so many ridiculous questions. If I answered like that now I probably would get jail time and considered a terrorist! LOL For those who don't know Celestial Seasoning is located in Colorado. I now get their catalog but still go to visit my sister in Colorado as often as money will allow! LOL To get a catalog call 1-800-2000-TEA

The sugar Plum Spice is good. I picked up another new one, at least for me, this year it's Gingerbread Spice. Very good, a bit of spice is nice morning or evening. If I make one of my big mugs of tea I will sometimes mix the gingerbread spice with a Chai. Sounds strange but the spices go well together. I have also dropped a piece of crystallized ginger into the bottom of the mug when I do the Gingerbread one. A bit extra ginger and the little bit of sweet from the sugar on the ginger. Then I get to eat the ginger. Nice way to end the evening.
The only one I got that I have not liked was one I picked up last year. An Egg Nog tea. I know sounds strange but I like nutmeg and I thought it would be pretty good. I found it did not have much flavor. Never know until you try.

We are having a cookie decorating family get-together the week-end before Valentine's Day. My son is baking the sugar cookies, my granddaughter is the "official cookie cutter" and we all will frost and decorate the cookies. We are going to have a big pot of homemade soup, a loaf of artisan bread made by my daughter and then decorate and eat cookies. Three generations having fun together!

Susan, can you please send me a nice big slice of the Chocolate cake with Peanut butter frosting? 2 of my favorite flavors in one big bite. Might be fun to add a "twist" to the cake, heat jelly until it is real thin and brush the cake with it for a PB&J cake.

Today at WalMart I bought some half-price (yahhhh!!) plastic plates - transparent red.
For Valentines Day I'll make each kid a plateful of cookies!!! I can write that on the bottom of each plate .... Yes, I can write backwards - lol lol lol

Hey Nancy, why not just print off the saying and tape or glue it to the bottom of the plate so it can show through? I Love packing tape it's the female version to duct tape...LOL

I plan on making a 6" square cake and a 6" round cake. Cut the round cake in half and put on either side of the square making a heart cake. I think I will make chocolate armaretto cake with cannoli filling and chocolate fudge icing. Hey he gets the cannoli filling, because I LOVE CHOCOLATE...LOL

Look on this website for the "cookie cards" . They are slabs of ready made sugar cookie dough that you decorate to look like cards with chocolate hearts and other valentine decorations. I have made them for my granddaughter's dance team as they always seem to have a competition around Valentines Day. The, girls love them as they are so cute and festive. You could do the same with your own homemade cookiebdough!

Am making cookies shaped out of hearts for everybody and alsp put there names and give them as valentines gifts so everybody will have at least gift on valentines day!!

I think if the jelly is heated and you brush it on when you first take the cake out of the oven the cake will absorb the thinned out jell easily. If you let the cake cool you might have to poke a few holes in the cake. I would use a kabob skewer it is thin enough that it will not leave big holes in the cake.
I made a recipe from http://www.kingarthurflour.com the Raspberry Truffle Squares and that calls for brushing warm raspberry jelly on the cake just as it comes out of the oven. That is where I got the idea. The Raspberry Truffle Squares are GREAT! And easy.

Won't be doing anything special. Am single, ex is in Tampa so it will be first Valentine Day we have not been together in 28 years. Just another day to me.
