It's so easy to be GREEN! My husband's favorite is my green garlic mashed potatoes--just add a few drops of green food coloring! I serve fried pork chops with a honey mustard sauce to which again I add green food coloring .

When my children were at home they wanted my chicken with spinach noodles. And my Dad liked my GREEN pancake supper--again just add green food coloring to the syrup and the pancake batter.

Always use my grandmother's recipe for corned beef & cabbage. just make sure u use a bottle of dark stout Irish beer with the water.

I really am not fond of cooked cabbage, so we have cole slaw with our corned beef. That is sort of green!

Hi all you "everybody is Irish" on Saint Patrick's Day ladies and gents,

There are so many wonderful Irish recipes out there and I do have many of them as I am a second gerneration Irish American. My tip though is not a recipe, just a fun idea. You may add green food coloring to just about any of your family's favorites and your children will be thrilled. Yes, I served the traditional corn beef and cabbage, but when I served it, I would super "green" up the cabbage with a rinse in green food coloring water. Green food coloring in the mashed potatoes, and an extra drop or two in the applesause. My children are all in their 30's with children of their own and they tell me that one of their favorite holiday meals was St. Patty's Day because of all the (ewww!) green foods! "Irish" Cupcakes? Easy with mint extract and food coloring. Carry this through with your favorites on that weeknight meal. Make your Macaroni and cheese green. How about green Alfredo sauce with spaghetti! BLTs with green mayonnaise, yum! Green chicken noodle soup anyone? You get the idea. Enjoy everyone.

I always make corned beef and cabbage and potatoes. It is the only day I ever make it. My mom used to make it on St. Patrick's Day for us when I was a kid.

I always make my Irish hubby corned beef & he will have planned overs for his rubens at least once, since I do not like either, I will have a very large tossed salad (hey, it is green

) I will make cole slaw since the cabbage will be on sale & later I will make myself a pot of cabbage soup & freeze some. I will probably just tint white cake green & frost with white & sprinkle lightly with green sugar.

What is Irish soda farls, and Blarney Stones? Sounds intriquing! I need something new to make this year.

Irish Soda Bread. I have an authentic recipe from a friend (elderly woman) who grew up in Ireland and taught me how to make it over 20 years ago. Corned beef, of course. Irish soda farls. And our family recipe for Blarney Stones. Yes, we are very Irish.

Yesterday I went to my favorite grocery store in the neighboring town.
They had big heads of cabbage piled in the cooler (in the meat dept) that offered corned beef.
I thought that was such a good, clever idea.

I enjoy a salad made with cottage cheese, either lime jello (dry) or lime pudding. pineapple, cool whip and nuts or cherries added. It is delicious and very pretty.

The kids and I make our rainbow cake and share it with the class,

You buy a white cake mix and make it according to the recipe on the box then divide the batter into 6 different colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple -like the rainbow- then layer them into the greased bundt or angelfood pan- layer starting with purple, then -blue, green, yellow orange and last red on top- bake it and then take a knife and go around the edges of the pan to loosen the cake from it- turn it upside down on a plate and you will see all the colors- I sent in canned spray whipped cream to squirt on each slice and we gave each child a gold coin for the pot of gold! We love it! Hope you enjoy it too!

The Irish Soda Farls can be found on the allrecipes.com website. The Irish Soda Bread recipe is as follows: (Sorry it took so long to respond with this--- have had a sick child for the past several days.)

Soak in warm water for 10 minutes: 1 - 1/2 c. raisins
Drain and pat dry.
Mix in large bowl: 4 c. flour
                                 1 c. sugar
                                 2 t. baking soda
                                 1 t. salt
Add raisins and mix.
Now make a well in the middle and add the following:   1 - 3/4 c. buttermilk
                                                                                                    2 T. butter, melted
                                                                                                    1 egg, beaten
Mix and form a ball. Add flour as needed.   Roll onto floured board and knead for 5 minutes. I usually add about 1 additional cup of flour. Place in greased cast iron pan (8 or 10 inches). Pat down and cut into dough with knife to form a cross. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Check at 1 hour-- mine is usually done in 1 hour and 5 minutes. I saw a recipe on the King Arthur Flour Site for a Zebra cake. You make a white cake and add cocoa to half then you put a bit of the white in the center of the pan, round one, then you place a bit of white right in the center of the chocolate then white in the center of that then keep repeating. Each addition fans out the batter and when the cake is cut you have white and dark stripes. At least this is a general description as to how it is made.
