PHILLY Shrimp Cocktail Dip

Directions

  1. Spread cream cheese onto bottom of shallow bowl.
  2. Toss shrimp with cocktail sauce; spoon over cream cheese.
  3. Top with remaining ingredients. Serve with WHEAT THINS Original Snacks

My Mother-in-law does takes a block of cream cheese pours the cocktail sauce over the block and then takes a crained can of mini shrimp and dumps that on top. It looks so pretty and tastes so good! She is a queen at cream cheese spreads!
Need to swipe some of her recipes and put on here.
I always prefer the Heinz chili sauce in my shrimp cocktails-and I wouldn't spread it either ------just peel off the wrapper

I used to make something like this back when we entertained a lot (long time ago!); but instead of shrimp, I used chopped lobster.  Yummy!  I'll have to break down now and try it with the shrimp.  I do love shrimp (almost as much as lobster!).  Thanks for the heads up!

Many years ago this was a party staple - using canned tiny shrimp but no  Parmesan.
I wonder why it disappeared?

Cuz people got too "fancy" to use canned shrimp and cream cheese.
Lots of stuff form the 50's, 60's and 70's were pretty tasty.
It is also possible that we grew tired of the "same old thing" and found new stuff to make and the recipes got lost as Mom's and Gandma's passed away. Now the kids of that generation now in our 50's and 60's are finding them again.

I do happen to have some low fat cream cheese in the refrigerator and some little shrimp in the freezer.

I remember my Mom making this on VERY special occasions also, Nancy. Old things becoming new again, I guess, ala Retro fans.
