My son who is in the Navy, and will be home for Thanksgiving for a change (woo hoo), has requested Strawberry Rhubarb pie for one of the desserts. Do you know how difficult fresh rhubarb is to find during this time of year, even in California? I had all the produce managers around town trying to find some for me, to no avail. I did find frozen rhubarb, so I made the pie with that and fresh strawberries. It just came out of the oven, and the drips are pretty tasty (yes, I burned my tongue). So hopefully the rest of the pie is as good. My reluctance to use the frozen rhubarb was because of the added moisture, so I threw in a few more pearls of tapioca. Will let you know how it turned out.

I think the frozen is just as good as fresh particularly this time of year.
I am so glad he will be home.  No wonder you went to the ends of the earth to get what he wants.
Next year when you are able to find fresh or pick fresh rhubarb remember this and cut some up and toss it in the freezer.

Verlee ~ I know nothing about rhubarb (except it's hard to spell ) fresh or frozen but I believe the pie will be great.  You and your son deserve the best !!

Verlee,  I am so happy for you that your son will be home for Thanksgiving.
Your pie really sounds great. I was at Sprouts today and they make a
strawberry rhubarb pie too. We have them in the Sand Diego area but I
know they are in the Temecula area too. They are trying to get into the
LA area.  The pies were $2.99. They are like a Trader Joe's store but
with bulk spices, nuts and lots of other goodies. There veggies and fruits
are cheaper than Trader Joe's. I found out late last night that they wanted
me to take the pies too, so I picked up 4 today because I had 2 meetings.
Hope you get Sprouts up there soon.  Have a great time on Thanksgiving
with your son. This store has double add day every Wed. The add from
the week before and the new one. Awesome prices.

That's great Verlee that you'll have him home for Thanksgiving.

I have never developed a taste for rhubarb even though my grandmother used to cook it when I was young. I'm sure it's very good but even she couldn't entice me to eat it lol.
