So many elderly feel alone and useless especially during the holidays.Remember them with a phone call,card or a platefull of cookies.You could never imagine how wonderful that will make them feel and it will make you feel even better that you made someone feel special.Many lasting friendships are started with a kind gesture.I have two ladies on my street one is 102 and the other 98,I adore these two with all my heart and have valued their friendship for the past 28 years.When we moved on to the street 28 years ago I remember the one welcoming us to the neighborhood with a smile and a plateful of homemade cookies.God bless you Dorothy and Fern.

It's a good idea to check on elderly neighbors and friends especially with the cold weather much of the country is currently experiencing.
Of course a homemade treat would also be appreciated.

Gale...

I have an elderly friend like that too, her name is Flo. She is like a Mom to me, my husband and I include her with the holiday picnics so she is not alone, take her shopping with me and we always share desserts, soups, etc. when we try something new. Right now she is in Florida visiting family...lucky duck!

My elderly friend doesn't drive after dark so I get her to evening church services, dinner out once a week and anything she needs. I love here so "helping" her is a joy.

My sister in law is paraplegic. On holidays my sons bring her food since she is unable to get here and we can't get there because of my husband's MS. She has an elderly woman who lives upstairs from her and we always send a plate for Phyllis, too. (We also send a plate for my sister in law's aid. ) She has someone with her 24 hours a day, a live in. Phyllis is so appreciative that we always remember her. It makes us feel so good.

Our church offers rides to the elderly, brings soup to those who are ill, brings cooked meals, crochet prayer shawls, read to those in nursing homes and many other wonderful projects for all. I am sure that other groups also do the same.

In the past two cities that we have lived, our next door neighbors have been widowed elderly women. They both have been so appreciative of even the smallest gesture done for them. It doesn't take much time out of one's day, and the smile you get in return gives you the best feeling. Thank you for putting this post out there for all of us to remember others.

It just makes me feel so good that everyone takes the time to give of themselves to our elderly and handicapped.So many of them have so much to offer us if we would just take the time to know them.There was an elderly man who lived on our street and my son would go and spend time with him,I think my son was about five at the time.He would read to him because the man couldn't see very well.I would see them walking hand in hand down the street and that was one of those moments that just takes your breath away.So sweet just being together.

I believe that what goes around comes around. My age gets larger every year so I hope some sweet person will help me out when I can't drive or cook. I plan on living until I hit 130 years old. I just about half way there.....TEE HE HEE!

Thanks Angela, you are a nice person also,so glad I met you.The water lily reminds me of my pond,when the kids were little they wanted an aquarium, so I suggested why not a pond.They were more than happy to help me put one in.We ejoyed it for several,but we had to fill it in because I could no longer care for it.
