We had a real tree our first Christmas together,We were busy doing this and that and it wasn't a priority at the time, the tree was left up until easter,so I hung plastic colored eggs on the bare tree as a joke and we had an Easter egg tree :) Now it's Artificial all the way.

We have an artificial tree which I really do not like. There is nothing like the smell of a fresh pine tree at Christmastime! Unfortunately the trees are so expensive and the pine needles are falling before the tree is in place. The real tree brings back wonderful memories. My daughter in-laws alway had a "Charlie Brown" tree which was so beautiful because they had real candles and I had the priviledge of seeing her father-in-law, Martin, light them so that we could enjoy the beauty for a short while before the candles were extinguished because of fear of fire. God Bless you Martin.

We used to have real trees when the kids were small. Now I have an artificial one for the grandkids.
They have a real tree at their own homes. We never bought a tree, we just got one from the pasture.

I grew up with artificial, since my parents are blind, it would have been difficult to get out every year and find a real one.
After I moved out I've had both - but we tend to stick with artificial.  We are actually using the tree my husband inherited from a local bank when it upgraded to a large tree - so it's over 30 years old, and still looks great!  It's so much easier and the tree can stay up longer - we live in Wonderfullly DRY Colorado, so watering would be a hassel.
I love the smell though, so usually buy a wreath or swag to bring in the house - in addition to all my lovely pine candles, we get the full effect.
And Nancy G - I aggree totally - you need something to put out.  I even have a small (about 6 inch fully decorated with skirt) tree that I keep in my office.  My grandmother used to make fabric trees, and we have all made ceramic trees - they are small, fun, easy, and keep the spirit going!  Smile

When we were first married we had a real tree...usually pretty skimpy as we couldn't afford much.  When my husband was in the army in Colorado I made most of the ornaments.  We cut tin cans in strips and twisted them.  Later after both kids were born we found out that our younger child, our son, was allergic, so we bought a fake tree. We used that for many years until he moved out.  Now we have a real tree every year.  Guess what, he is married with two kids and now he has a real tree too.

When I was a child we always had real trees.  My Dad would take us on a tree hunt to find the best one.  It just got to be too much to do it, so we went to artificial trees.  Think Dad got tired of going out in the cold all the time.   My husband and I have always had an artificial tree.  Problem now is that he bought one that is so big it takes up a good deal of the living room.  I've been lobbying for a smaller one LOL.  It would be so much easier to put up and take down.

I totally agree with Elsie.  I have even made fabric trees for nursing home rooms of those who couldn't make it out of their rooms.  They always seem to cheer the residents.  Who knows maybe I will be a resident there myself someday.

I have an artificial tree.  It did not get put up this year.  It is so heavy to bring out of the attic and downstairs.
We'll see what happens next year.
