Has any one ever hosted or attended one of these? I was told that one host has appetizers at their house, then the next host has soup or salad at their house, and so on until my favorite" the dessert". I was wondering if I couldn't just skip all the courses and get to my favorite course the desserts! I would like to host just a big progressive dessert party. What do all of you think?

When I read the title - "Progressive Party", I planned to just read, certainly not comment or answer because I don't like that sort of dinner party.
However, a progressive dessert party sounds great!!
I don't know about a "big" party..... how many desserts could a person eat? They would have to be very small and I think that would be fairly easy to accomplish. At my house each person would get two cookies and then move on to the next.
Will you invite me? Please.

I think a progressive dessert party sounds like a lot of fun. Share recipes and have a little to nibble on and a lot of talk. Isn't that when most of the worlds problems get solved, after the meal when we are relaxed and having something a little sweet with a "cuppa" whatever tastes good to you?
Oh, just save time and have everyone bring their dessert to a one location and party from there. Why move... just eat.

Sounds dumb , just all meet at one person's house so everyone can be together. All desserts sounds good.

IMO moving from house to house would be wonderful at this time of year. I'd love to see how each person/friend had decorated.

We have done this with my husbands family and really the reason for the progressive party was to check out every one's Christmas decorations and enjoy something to eat at each other's home,there are seven in his family.One of my neighbors has a bakery and every winter in February she has an open house at the bakery just for all of us on the street.We all make our own pizzas,she supplies everything for the pizza's and a lot of different bake goods, we all bring salads and appetizers and of course our appetites.It's like a mid winter get together and it's a blast.Like I have said before I love the street I live on and all my neighbors :)

I believe that with the price of gas that carpool would be helpful and it would give everyone a chance to enjoy the different decorations in other homes. It would be like a block party with more fun enjoying other people. Progressive means moving forward. I think this site is a progressive party all year long!

On Christmas Eve we are planning to do a 12 course progressive meal at our Church going from one room to another for each course and having prayers in each room. The 12 rooms depicts the 12 Apostles of Jesus. We have ample classrooms for this purpose. All the food is more like just a sample but I'm really excited to participate in this as some folks may think it "dumb" but I find it a way to be closer to Jesus rather than having time to pass judgement in a negative light. My only advice would be to keep portions small, or you will be all sugared out before you get to the last house!! Also offer coffee and/or tea to cut the sugar!!

Our church organized a "progressive" party one year. They divided the congregation up by where they lived and we got to meet all the people in our area who go to our church. With 3 services on Sundays and 1 on Wednesdays there were a lot of folks we didn't know! It was fun and my favorite stops were aps and desserts!! Beginnings and endings so to speak!!

ELSA; I've heard of this type of party; Never knew of one happening anywhere I've lived;obviouslyI've never been to one.I think it sounds likeFUN; lots of dishes to try& no one person having to spend too much time & money to make it happen; sort of like a POT LUCK on wheels

We decided to have the sweets in only three rooms and the other rooms would be divided up in other categories. Each classroom will be decorated in a different theme. I think this will be one very unforgettable Christmas Eve for all the families attending. I heard that Santa might be in the fellowship hall right after midnight Mass. I'm surprised they didn't ask me to don a costume! I could be an elf as short as I am. LOL

I had typed all the different theme's we were having and that we would be having sweets in only three rooms and I deleted everything.....Darn it, now I have to run so I will yak at everyone tomorrow.

Themes for the rooms: Stars, Angles, Candy canes, Icicles, Wood, Copper, Mere, Frankincense, Christmas Trees, Snow, Baby Jesus,
and of Course Kris Kringle..Santa Klaus..Saint Nicholas.

Foods to be served: Beverages: Hot Chocolate, Hot Cider, and bottled water 2 rooms
Candies from around the world, 1 room children must have an adult accompany them
Soups of some sort: 2 room Possibly Chili in one
   salad 1 room
   pasta salads 2 rooms
   Main Dishes 1 room
   desserts 3 rooms.....cakes in one, cookies in one, and all other desserts in the last
