No peanuts!!! :-(

This afternoon I learned that, at least in this area, there will be no bags of RAW peanuts.   YIKES.  I make peanut brittle.... I HAVE to make peanut brittle this time of year. I

No peanuts!!! :-(

This afternoon I learned that, at least in this area, there will be no bags of RAW peanuts.   YIKES. 

I make peanut brittle.... I HAVE to make peanut brittle this time of year.
I did find big bags of in-the-shell peanuts so I bought 12 lbs of that.  Now I have to shell them myself.

Sorry to hear that, Nancy.  Sorry you have to shell 12 lbs. of peanuts.  Did they give a reason why they are not available?

Marie -- I was told that they aren't very available because of all the flooding and bad weather.  Whew - that bad weather was the largest part of the soaring price of pecans.    I didn't think of peanuts!!

And I don't buy any peanuts except raw and peanut butter.  The price of peanut butter went so high.
I just didn't think of peanuts.

Nancy,  No problem with getting raw peanuts out in San Diego area.  I know that
there was a lot of flooding in your area.  Not much warning!!  It's going to take a
while to shell 12lbs of peanuts.  I'm waiting to hear what  Peaches and BadCat
are going to do while you are shelling the peanuts!!  lol lol

Sorry to hear you're havin g trouble finding raw peanuts Nancy.  Apparently most of the raw peanuts come from Georgia, like most commercial pecans, and between the drought on one end and the hurricanes on the other they didn 't do well this year. 

I'm waiting to hear what else will get blamed on the weather lol.

We have raw peanuts in the Los Angeles area also. Nancy, your hand shelled peanuts will make that brittle taste so much better!

These peanuts came from Hampton Farms in Severn, NC.  I went to their web site and they sell SHELLED raw peanuts there.  Not only shelled but the red skins are removed!!  Oh, what nice peanut brittle - BUT the cost is above me.  
I have two batches of brittle made and three more batches of peanuts waiting.

There are STILL no shelled peanuts in this area.   Now I'm wondering what I should do ........ Do I buy more of those very good jumbo expensive peanuts IN THE SHELL or should I order the very expensive shelled peanuts from Hampton?

I just have to make more peanut brittle.

Nuts to nuts! I cannot believe how expensive they have become and can't believe the nut George Washington Carver made famous is so hard to obtain.

Nancy, at least you don't need a nutcracker to open them.  Take heart as they will probably be cheaper and available next year as surely the weather won't be bad 2 years in a row.  Trying to decide whether to buy shelled nuts or those in the shell, I weighed the nuts after I had shelled a pound of walnuts several years ago.  The conclusion was it was cheper get them already shelled.  I'm really distressed at the price of pecans as they have gone above my budget.  Too bad as I use them in a lot of baked stuff.

Judy - the small independent grocery store here had whole pecans in little packages.  Apparently they didn't sell because they now have them in the 1/2 price bins.  I bought as many as I think I can force myself to shell.

 And -- speaking of shelling nuts, especially peanuts.   The two fine men who were here working so hard in my basement and gobbling cookies at the same time got to talking about treats they and their wives loved.  
One said his wife would kill for PEANUT BRITTLE and had gone wild with the bag I had given them with cookies for Christmas.   The next said his favorite treat was SKITTLES.  (You know that candy?) 
So this morning I made three batches of peanut brittle. i was so happy to have those shelled peanuts in the freezer.
This afternoon I bought a couple giant bags of Skittles.  Tomorrow morning at church I'll have treats for them.

Nancy, I thought about your peanut predicament the other day when I was at Target. They had Planters raw peanuts for 1/2 price. Isn't it interesting how the markets and availability differs by each state. I remember when you first mentioned the dark chocolate chips, and it took forever for them to arrive in our stores here.

Well, PHOOEY Verlee - that actually Hurts.  And I know I wasn't the only Missourian searching for raw peanuts.
I wonder if it's Planters fault or the stores.
I know the Target here has never carried Planters raw.
