Welcome Back John!! Missed your posts.  How have you been?
Ok back on subject..
Most of the stores around here run specials and the price of the turkey depends on how much you spend.
I will not be getting a turkey this Thanksgiving.  We will be going up the street to my daughters house. I will be taking a dessert just have to figure out what to make.

GRANA here;
frozen Grade A PRIME, basted $.59#
fresh Grade A PRIME $.79#
Both have built in timers
Neither are a Brand name;
Both are our store's own( house/generic) brand.
It seems like only a few years ago; they were only $.39#

HiGALE; The only store I know about that is giving away FREE turkeys is the wholesale club.
You must be a member& buy 4 specified items;each in mult- pack units;
canned  gravystuffingmix& one other  I  cannot recallEmbarassed
Thesize of the turkey grade/brand are not specified.Wink
I cannot remember ever getting FREE turkeys  except from hubby'semployers all the years our  kids were growing u & I prepard the traditional dinner at home, even if it was just the 4 of us.
 One year, after they had gone  off on their own; hubby got a BIG 22# turkey from his employer & gave  i t to a co-worker  who had a large family coming for dinner & had expressed concerns as to if his tukey would be big nough. He had received a 10# bird & forgot to give it to us in exchange forour 22# birdFrown
We had no freezer & much of our22#  turkey  would have gone to waste if I had cooked it FOR "JUST THE TWO F US"
One year we donated our 22# turkey to the FOOD BANKInnocent

Hi Ann,Our chain grocery stores used to start in September,you had to spend $ 500.00 by the first week in November and you would qualify for a 12-15 # turkey If you Spent $800.00 + You would qualify for a larger turkey.Don't remember the exact amounts but that gives you some idea.They don't do it anymore.It's funny though I worked in the grocery store and we never got a free turkey.I drove the shuttle buses at the Airport for awhile and got two free turkeys one from the union and the other from my employer.The absolute best turkey we had was 32# and it was a fresh Amish turkey.I had to go back to the store and pay for it.The cashier was so excited by it's size she never rung it out.I paid my bill, i did all the rest of the shopping there at this time and I though it was a low bill for all that I had gotten. I always check my receipt when I get home don't want to get cheated and I don't want to cheat the store either.

In all 45 years of marriage, I have never gotten a free turkey. I have always checked all ads for all stores & never came across a store that  had a "free" with purchase.  However, I did get my turkey  reduced with a $25.00 purchase.  I think the Butterball was going for $2.69#, the store brand was $1.89# with out the $25 purchase.

I don't know how much a pound they are, but some stores had them for $5.00 if you bought a certain amount. With my sister and her husband there are just the three of us and we were going away in their motor home in just a couple of days, so we got a rotisserie chicken from COSTCO and reheated that for Thanksgiving. The leftovers are in the refrigerator to have for dinner one night.
