My mom was home with all three kids for 5 years (until i went to kidergarden) . We were always making someting. But I remember most is baking and decorating Christmas sugar cookies. I tell her that I got the baking gene from her. I love to bake anyting, especially Chocolate Chip cookies. I have several people who request them when they are over. I always have a batch ready in the freezer. Thanks Mom. Laughing

My fondest memory was the pie that my sister made for my mother. My sister warned us all that the pie might not be just right because she ran out of salt making the pie. She said the recipe called for 1/2 Cup of salt.  My sister was about 13 at the time. Needless to say, the pie looked great but it was awful salty.  We all tried it of course. The recipe called for 1/2 teaspoon not 1/2 cup.

My mot favorite memories of baking was of my moms fantastic cakes.  she always made me an angle food cake with strawverries and pink whipped cream for my birthday which was in november so that was quite a trick,  and she made her cakes from scratch, taught me how to separate yolks from eggs and make the most delicious 7 minute frosting in the world, which would harden over in a day or two and turn into a wonderful crunchy outside and still soft and delish inside.  she could make frosting roses and tried to teach me mine were tulips she said, because I couldonly get 3 petals on before they fell apart. her cakes were always four layers, very tall and very beautiful.  and she allways made our birthday cakes never a boxed recipe or store bought, she also taught me how to write with the tiniest wilton tip.  good memories of my mom who is passed on now.

Ithat is so sweet,  my friends daughter tried to cook her mom a chicken dinner for mother's day but got the oregano and cinnamon mixed so we had fried cinnamon chicken.  my other friend added four cups of salt instead of sugar to her freezer jam.  ewwww

a wonderfully fun cake to make with children for mother's day is what we call the polka dot cake.  we carefully swirl in "bug: which i think are called Jimmies in other areas, do not stir them much, but when you bake the cake they melt and burst into little polka dots.  and when you cut it a matching color for a layer cake frosting is so pretty.  I am going to experiment with small candies to insert that might melt ina  bigger polkadot. or perhaps taking a piping point and shooting different colored cake batter in spots, it might work.surprises for mother's day, now that is hard with mommies  always around,  half the fun is the sneaking to try to surpirse her.

My mother was wheelchair bound when we were able to live w/her.  She went into nursing homes when I was eight.  I learned to cook basically setting on her lap while she was in her wheelchair.  I really don't have many memories of her actually cooking.  The memories I do have are the ones when I prepared meals for her in my apartments.  She was so proud that I loved to cook & I just loved fixing food for her that wasn't "hospital" food.  She loved the spices and textures.  These are my memories of my mother and cooking.

My mother has been gone for over 30 years & I would love to have one more day to show her things in my life & ask just a few more questions.  My mom had MS.  30 years ago that was a death sentence so I wouldn't actually bring her back.  I believe that in heaven she has two good legs & can walk, cartwheel and somersault to her hearts content!  She is loved and missed.
