In our village, flags are posted on each telephone pole all down the streets from about the 2nd through about the 5th.  It really looks nice. Also most homes have a flag flying.  It's good to show our pride in our country.

Frances - my little town flys the flag too ..... every big pole on the highways and main streets.  The main square is really decked with flags.

Wow, last night the fire works were so loud! Where we live in Cleveland we are surrounded by 6 suburbs. They all must have had their Grand Finally all at the same time it sounded like explosions.I'm glad as bad as our economy is,the  people in our great country are still able to celebrate our Independence! God Bless the USA !

My husband and I spent the morning hours of the fourth at the backgate of the airport.  We, along with many others, had gone there to support the family of a 29 year-old marine that paid the ultimate price in Afganistan.  We held American flags and with our hands over our hearts watch the hearse and the vehicles with the family members pass through the line formed on both sides of the driveway out of the airport.

Roaring Thunder and a group from a Christian motorcycle club escorted the hearse some 45 miles to the young man's home town.  Tomorrow, they will escort the casket to the local high school were the funeral will be held.  After the funeral, they will escort the casket to the cemetary.

Many of these cyclists are veterans of the Vietnam war and want to be sure that our fallen are treated with respect and honor.  They also come out when the Wounded Warriors come down to the beach from Walter Reed Hospital in DC.  They are treated to a long weekend at the beach, including the hired wheelchair bus that brings them from DC to the beach and back.

Not all of the patients at Walter Reed are able to travel down, but any who come are treated royally and cannot express their thanks enough to those who greet them and share their time getting to know them during their stay.

Another outreach is Scents for Soldiers.  The young women who began this fund raising organization went to places like Walter Reed and Bethesda Hospitals and asked the wounded what they would like to have.  So many of them replied that they wanted something to take away the hospital smell from their rooms.  Scents for Soldiers takes them room freshners and/or the scented oils with the bamboo sticks that scent the air, in addition to personal items that they need such as shaving cream, deodorant, and the like.

Some of the wounded stay in a building next door to Walter Reed where they can be with their families.  They are given free lodging but the family must supply paper products, soap, shampo, etc.  Scents for Soldiers helps them out with these supplies.  Usually the families are in a financial crunch as it is, so this really helps.

Just found out that a "certain church" that finds it necessary to dishonor our fallen by disrupting their funeral services with their presence, their signs and their shouting plan to target this young man's funeral.  The Patriot group and the Rolling Thunder will try to intercede and keep them at bay.  Please keep this situation in your prayers today.  Thank you.
