With a lot of recipes I often replace one nut for another in the recipe. I like pecans much better than walnuts in most recipes. But I will often use cashews, macadamia or sometimes a mix if I don't have or like a particular nut. Sometimes I will use seasoned nuts, I make a chocolate bark with Smokehouse Almonds, it is fantastic. I found a Pumpkin spiced almond that I used in my pumpkin bread in place of pecans. So I would say feel free to replace a nut with one you can find or one you like.
Nancy, our grocery store carries them in the produce section right along with pecans and walnuts. The ones we can buy are shelled with the skins on. The skins can be a bit stubborn to remove; I usually just give them a good rubbing with a clean old dishtowel. They are especially flavorful when they are toasted.
