Well I have a couple of gallons of wine that are almost finished but will have to enjoy them next year.They need to age for at least one year but luckily my dear brother has some he is willing to share with me for this year.Boy sometimes I'm really glad he's my brother.

A couple of bottles of wine would be a lifetime supply for me. I can't imagine a few gallons! You must make your own wine what kind do you make?

We made apple wine .My brother makes a rice wine and what he calls a spice wine that is very good but that is a little more involved and I'm not ready for that yet, I'm a beginner this is my first batch. .My parents used to make wine out of pears and apples.My brother still has a few bottles of my dads wine which is 39 years old.Very sweet like a brandy.He passed away while making his wine.My mom wanted him to wait until we were home from school to help him with heavy lifting and he wanted to get it done and suffered a massive heart attack.Now I'm starting a batch of sauerkraut so it will be ready for Christmas and the New Year.If anyone is interested in making your own sauerkraut I would be more than happy to explain the process it's very easy. I make mine right on the counter top in my kitchen.

not cooking for thanksgiving going to my sons in pa will do some gift shopping but grand children get money . my sister and brother will get gifts. card with money for my children some things for my husband have to start getting x mas ready to go in mail

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i77hU3zR-fQ Hi Nikki I found Sandor Katz on You tube,My brother has his book and this is how we learned how to make sauerkraut.He is very informative.I make my sauerkraut in a 1 1/2 gallon glass jar with a wooden lid right on the kitchen counter top when it is finished I repack it in freezer bags,just because they are a heavier gauge and store them in the back of my fridge.I usually give some away for the holidays to friends,family and neighbors.I just use cabbage and kosher salt sometimes caraway seeds.Since I use a large jar I fill a quart size freezer bag with salt water to lay on top of the sauerkraut to keep it submerged under the brine.As long as it's submerged under the brine you should have no problem with mold as he mentioned.Having the bag of salt water is better if it leaks it won't spoil the sauerkraut.I taste it everyday and tap it down into the brine then replace the weight.I use my wooden French rolling pin to do this or you could use a large wooden spoon.As you will see it is very easy to do.My niece is hooked on homemade sauerkraut and always has a never ending supply.If you eat it raw you will have the benefits of probiotics,it loses some of this when cooked.I hope you make it, not hard to do just need the time to make it I leave mine ferment 2-3 weeks.Please let me know if you have any other questions.Good Luck on your new adventure..

Oh you're welcome.I think it's nice to see how different foods are processed.Most of my Christmas gift giving comes from my kitchen.It sure beats the long lines in the store.

I have come to realize that my making Christmas dinner this year will not be possible, unless I can get someone to take me shopping. I will not be driving at least until after my appointment on the 26th of Dec.
I have almost all my shopping done a few things to get tomorrow and I will be done. Not the way I wanted to be done but I am out of time so "cet la vie"

The only laptop I have is the one I have when I sit down.
This is day surgery so I do not plan on being there any longer than I have to be.
My husband has no idea that I am going to the hospital and if I had to stay over night I don't know how he would deal with that. So a word above and fingers crossed that that will not happen. My sister is taking me and my brother in law will stay with my husband.
I appreciate all the good thoughts you all can't imagine how good that feels.
