If anyone was watching The Chew this afternoon there was a very clever "craft" idea.
A display tray for cookies, cupcakes or other treats.( but nothing hot or wet.)

Pre heat oven to 375
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Lay rows of the inexpensive mint candies, those hard red and white ones, on the parchment.  Place them so they almost touch but not quite about 1/4 inch apart.
Place the pan in oven for 5 to 7 minutes.  Just until they melt and sort of flow together.
Remove the pan from the oven and allow to cool for about 30 seconds.  Using a knife or pizza cutter cut off edges to make it even.  Allow to completely cool.

they also did the same thing but took cookie cutters and cut shapes and put a hole in the top to place string to hang the ornament.  But they said you had to work very quickly to do them.

I think this would look pretty if you draped the warm candies and parchment over a bowl to make a bowl to put nuts, candy or pretzels.

so now we have another use for our parchment paper and I need to get to Aldi's to get some of the inexpensive "starlight mints"

I am sure this is shown on the shows web site if anyone wants to see full directions or see what it looks like.

I HAVE A BIG BAG OF STARLIGHT MINTS RIGHT HERE!!    This sounds like something grand for all the bark, divinity and stuff I'm taking to church Sunday night.
What a GREAT IDEA.    Thank you.

I did it !!!!!!!!!!!   I made a cookie sheet - covered with parchment - full of mints.  They melted BEAUTIFULLY and in perfect order.  I didn't need to trim it all all.     I always pile  heaps of cookies and/or candy but I don't want to cover this fantastic tray.  I'm going to use it for a pile of divinity.
I am so pleased with this great idea ......... Thanks again Nikki.

Oh - I went to The Chew but could not find this .

Gale -- I used the starlight mints from Walmart .......... they are too white - not enough red.  I hope your Aldi's mints are prettier.  Please let me know.  I plan to make more of this.

Gale that's it...thanks.  I am surprised that the Chew did not have this craft project on their web site.
I sort of like the way the green works in with the red.  I think it would be pretty with a green in the center then circles of alternating red and green.  The bowl looks just like I imagined it would.
All I have to do now is figure some way to get to the store.

I think it's real pretty and you're not going to see that everywhere.Like I said I think it would make a nice base for a gingerbread house too.Boy I'm so tired I never made it to bed last night my hubby feel on the floor and couldn't get up he's so weak and he is a large man.,My son tried for 45 minutes and couldn't get him up so we had to call the Fire Dept for a lift assist.Luckily he was unhurt but it's still unsettling.I think I'm going to lay down for awhile.Maybe your daughter could run the errand for you so you don't have to leave the house, you be careful.

Gale, I know how that can be my husband fell in the shower a while a go and I had to remove the shower doors in order for him to sort of roll out of the shower and then get up.  I could not do that now with my foot the way it is.  I would have to call 911.
I do hope your husband is alright.  Get some rest.........

Gale, I'm so glad your husband was ok and I hope you are both doing better.

Nikki, you surely have your hands full.  I hope you are healing well from the surgery and taking it a little easy.

Take it easy?? what's that like?
I am being good.  No weight on the foot.  I have fallen twice and both times it was head, shoulder, knee and down.  so the foot is fine. And I like to think the first fall was pretty graceful and in slow motion. At least that was my impression of it as it was happening. I am sure it looked not as graceful but the only one to see it was my husband and he is not saying anything so my secret is safe.

I got more starlights - red and green - and used both colors to make a  larger tray.   It's so pretty.  I'll use it for the church party so now I have to figure out something to do with the smaller solid red one.
Nikki - thanks yet again for such a lovely, fun idea.
