If anyone was watching The Chew this afternoon there was a very clever "craft" idea. A display tray for cookies, cupcakes or other treats.( but nothing hot or wet.) Pre heat oven to 375 Line a b

Wow!! These look really great and so pretty. Thanks for the info Nikki!!
You have fallen 2 times since your surgery!! Please take it easy and no
more falling. Just sit by your computer and give us a lot of tips and
recipes and maybe that will keep you from falling again. I sure wish
there was someone staying with you.

Well on my outing I stopped at Aldi's and they had 4 bags of mints left. I took 3.
I made a circle on a piece of parchment paper and set my mints in a circle.
I should have spaced some of them a wee bit closer.
They do slide a bit on the parchment so when you move them to the oven be careful or you will be doing a bit of reorganization after setting the tray on the oven rack.
Once I took the try out of the oven I used a toothpick to swirl some of the melted mints into open spaces. (told ya I should have spaced them a wee bit closer)
I then draped the paper over a bowl to form my free form candy dish.
Peeled off the parchment once it cooled.
The repair does not show on the top.
I now have a pretty red and white mint candy dish.

This is fun!!!

Yup Nikki --- this is fun. I stacked a nice pile of snowy divinity on my biggest tray..... gorgeous. I don't know what to do with the smaller tray. I'll think of something.
I have to have big solid serving things for the rest of the stuff.

Thanks Carol,I'm still tired today but better than yesterday.I really have to get him to our Dr..He's been refusing to go but I think I made a little progress with that today.I also made six small peppermint plates to put fudge and other goodie that I have made.I still have a few more to make.

Tonight is our kids' fun Christmas play at church..... then we'll have hot chocolate (and coffee!!) with cookies and candy. I am so excited about taking my divinity on this display tray. I wish I had time to make some bowls ......... and I'd like to try to drape a big, just melted batch over a 9x13 baking pan.

I took the candy canes that have been in my cabinet for a year and made a giant round wreath shape. Placed a round mint between each of the hook areas and a mint in the center.
I discovered candy canes do not melt as well as the round mints.
I used my silicone spatula to sort of press the spaces together.
It looks pretty.
I plan to put some candy on it and give it to friends that are going to come visit today. They have 3 little kids so I am going to give them a bag of mints to take home and play with.

Well I might be able to save you on the one made with candy canes. It needs a bit more support than the one mint in the center and one in each open area made by the hook.
I picked up the tray and it cracked. Now all I have is large shards to be broken up a bit more and plopped into hot chocolate

Thanks Nikki -------- I think my next "try" will be tray with an edge. I want something with a bit of a raised edge so things don't roll or slide off. I'm hoping that a double layer or mints on the edges will work.
And, like I said, I gotta' try draping a flat piece over a big bowl.

I'm starting to think that the low price of mints won't help my spending if I keep buying armloads of mints - all the local mints - and then having to drive to the neighboring town to buy more.

This type of thing really draws people in.They won't be able to keep mints on the shelves! lol This reminds me of the American flag pins that my son and I made after 9/11. I gave them all away and asks whoever took one from me to donate a $1 to either Police or Fire.You couldn't find safety pins or red,white or blue seed beads anywhere at that time.We made around 300 pins.I need to make about 20 small plates the size of the bottom of a 9" pie plate so ladies leave some peppermints for me! lol lol lol !

For your tray with an edge try this...
If you want the tray the size of a 13X9 lay out the mints about 2 mints larger than that size. Make sure your parchment paper is large enough to come up to the top of the 13X9 pan.
Bake.
Once the mints are melted and you take them out of the oven place your 13X9 pan on top of them and carefully bring the edges up to come in contact with the sides of the pan. I would use a silicone spatula or an off set spatula to help hold the sides up.
To keep the edges up while they cool use clothes pins or binder clips to the edge of the pan.

This is just speculation on my part but I think it would work.

Your other option would be to again carefully roll the edges. This might work but I don't think the corners would be sharp. Or you could do your tray with two rolled edges rather than edges all around.
