Emily, 90% of my cookie recipes are Nestles,  right on this site - best cookies in the world.

Hi Emily,
This is an 'old' recipe that my family has enjoyed for many years.

PECAN BALLS

1/2 lb. butter
1/4 c. sugar
2 c. flour; sifted
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. pecans; diced

Cream butter and add sugar. Then add flour and vanilla and mix well. Put pecans in last. With spoon or fingers form walnut-sized balls of dough and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 300°F, 30 minutes.

When cookies are almost cool, roll them in powdered sugar.

How about these spicy gems...
Hot Desert Sands Cookies
1/4 Cup butter (no substitutions)
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 Tbs. granulated sugar
1 Tbs. pure medium or hot ground chili pepers such as ancho or New Mexico Chimayo (don't substitute chili powder or ground red pepper)
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 Cup all-purpose flour
1/2 Cup finely chopped walnuts
2 Tbs. granulated sugar

Beat butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds.  Add powdered sugar, 2 Tbs. granulated sugar, ground chili, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, and baking powder; beat till combined.  Stir in flour and walnuts.

Shape the dough into 1 inch balls.  Place 2 Tbs. granulated sugar into a bowl.  Roll balls in sugar and place on ungreased cookie sheet.  Flatten balls to 1/4 inch thick using bottom of a glass.

Bake in a 325 degree oven for about 15 minutes or until edges are light brown.  Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool.  Makes about 36.

Where do I get "1 Tbs. pure medium or hot ground chili pepers such as ancho or New Mexico Chimayo"?  
Is that dried or something I should look for in the grocery's produce dept?

There are so many great recipes here that I would NEVER get a chance to make them all.  But for a fun site to check out go to http://www.northpole.com when you get to the page with all the houses click on the one with the Gingerbread man on the roof.  That is Mrs. Claus's kitchen then go to the cookbook.  There are cookie, candy, cake and pie recipes.  Most are pretty common some are unusual and some for some reason have obvious errors.  I don't know how recipes get submitted but you would think that they would check them out or at least proofread them.
There are other things to do on the site and art projects for kids.
