Alma, the first thing you need to do is check with your local Health Department to find out what regulations you need to follow. Most of the time you need to produce your product from a kitchen that has been inspected and licensed.
Sometimes you can use a Kitchen that is inspected, like a Church Kitchen or I know of one place that lets a baker use their kitchen to make product and she then also makes baked goods for the restaurant.
But your first call should be to the health department to get a copy of the code book and find out what you have to do.
It is a tough business, good luck.

By the way..welcome to this site hope you pass on some good recipes as well as get some.

Hi Alma - welcome to VBB.  I collect sweet recipes - especially cookies.  Do you have any you would share?

That would be a really fun thing to do.  I thought about making cakes to sell, but I'd be too nervous that they weren't good enough.

If you put your mind to it, anything is possible.  Have you ever watched "Cupcake Wars"?  A few months ago, a young woman that I know won the "war".  She has a shop around my home called "Cake in a Cup".  Her cupcakes are delicious beyond words!!  They are a little pricey; but they are worthy of every cent!!  By the way, this was her second try for a win, and this time she won.  We were out to the shop at Thanksgiving time, and it was hard to make up my mind as to which one to buy......so I bought six!  And, enjoyed every bite!!

Good Luck on your dream. Just be sure to check with the local and state
rules about selling baked goods out of your house.

Someone in our town won on Cupcake Wars also. This week she donated several dozen cupcakes to the Food Pantry, where I volunteer. The clients were thrilled to receive them.

I used to sell different flavors of Amish Friendship breads to people at work but it got really time consuming, remembering to feed the starter and which day I was on.  I did it for about a year and that was enough for me.  Now I'm into selling craft and rubber stamped projects.  I still bake but now it's on my terms, not the starters and I share my goodies with everybody for free.
