Baby showers are fun!  There are many books out with ideas on how to plan, ideas for unique hand-made invitations (these go over big with the Mom as well as the invitees!), games to be played (keep to minimum.....most do not like to play games), and many ideas regarding honoring the Mom.  The Library is a good source for all of the above, plus many more!  Hope the Mom and you enjoy!!

Is this going to be a lunch, brunch, or just little nibble type items?

Sandwiches are always a good option.  Chicken salad, egg salad, ham salad all go well on rolls or can be eaten with some mixed greens.
If you will be serving food is it going to be a sit down meal or more of a buffet?
If you will do a buffet pick up an extra ham this week and allow your guests to make sandwiches  if they wish.  A selection of cold salads would work with the sandwiches. Potato Salad, 3 Bean salad, broccoli salad are all good choices.
A hot side would be a nice option, baked beans or potato casserole both are easy and can be made in advance and heated up before the shower.

Make it easy on yourself and do as much as you can in advance.
Making vegetable trays and fruit trays in advance. Prepare the vegetables and store in zip top bags until you are ready to put them out.  Some fruit can be cut in advance but do not rinse berries until just before you put them out.

I love making home made cakes and cookies but for a shower you might want to give in and get the cake from Costco or Sam's if you have one near by.  I know the decorated, filled cakes at Costco are very good, a half sheet cake, filled and decorated is around $14.00. (and the Cheesecake filling or chocolate mouse filling are really good the apricot not so much).

Does the shower have a theme?

Crab salad served on croissant, deviled eggs, spinach dip served in a nice loaf of pumpernickel bread hollowed out and served with the pieces of bread.Meat and cheese platter served with crackers,if it's warm a nice gazpacho would be a great start to nice little meal .A nicely decorated cake to go with the theme of the shower, small finger pastries and or cookies are always nice.I went to a bridal shower that was given for a niece. We had little surprise gifts for the guest, there were numbers place under some of the chairs. After all the bridal gifts were opened we asked the guest to check under their chairs, prizes were handed out according to the number under the chair and numbered gifts. The dollar stores are just filled with all sorts of great things to give as favors to all the guests and party supplies are great to get there also. The less stress the better the party, keep it simple and have fun! Congrats on the new baby girl!
