NO SURPRISE: MORE BAD NEWS /MORE PRICE INCREASES

Due to bad winter weather; grain crops are poor= grain prices going up.
This means that every foodsource dependant on grain( for feed) is going to cost us more:
beef; lamb; pork, chicken eggs & ofcourse; grain itself'.cereal; pasta,
Even non-meat foods ( soy; cereals, lentils & beans, will be affected by this new round of excuses for higher prices
This doesn't leave much left at prices we have been used to paying( before recent increases, due to higher fuel/transport costs.
Dueto my husband's years of ravelling to & working in "third world" countries; I have been aware ( for a long time) how fortunate we have been to have such a huge & varied food supply at prices most working people can afford. It ssems & I fear this is no longer going to be the case!

We Americans have gotten used to being able to buy whatever we want in quantities, often wasteful.We make mealsw/ too large portions & often throw out theleftovers as"garbage".
We are going to have to:
......be more realistic & practical and start to better plan our meals for less waste; eat smaller portions, so as to have less waist.It won't be easy(to change our old long-time habits) but it can & must be done if we are to survive these endlessly escalating prices.
Let's help each other out by suggesting tips & menus) for more economical meals
( recipes too).

Soups; more veggies( home grown, if possible)
we are all in this together & by encouraging each other & sharing ideas (like our grandparents commonlyused) we'll make it through to a better future w/less waste & more appreciation of all the blessings in our lives

I knew it(price increases) are pretty bad when hubby increased our food budget; so I don't constantly feel a "failure" when unable to stay w/in our budget's limits..I intend to continue trying to stay w/in our original budget

( hubby knew I would)

It really tourques his gears to see people @ checkout; spend twice what we do & have purchased no fruits or veggies; instead buying lots
of snack foods( crackers,chips; soda& beer; . They buy hugesteaks& roasts We know these people& they too are emptynesters( only two adults.They eat out often, sometimes twice a day (breakfast & dinner) For all I know they eat lunch out too while @ work, they certainly don't take a bag lunch as hubby did for years. How they choose to spend their money is not my business until they are not able to or choose not to pay their condo fee on time each month as we are all expected to do.

This makes it a more difficult burden for the rest of us to keep our 3 buildings in good repair

Unfortunately price increases are everywhere. At the moment gas is the biggest barometer but when companies make the sizes of packages smaller and don't lower the price, that is also a price increase. And that seems to be the way all the companies are going right now.

Ann, apparently those people you know will not change their ways until they are forced to do so by running out of money. I also know some people like that. Like the one who spends hundreds of dollars on vitamins but can't or won't cook a meal. Really sad!

I know that God watches over all of us but I was also taught that He helps those who help themselves.

Everything seems to be getting smaller and the prices keep increasing. I fix meals all week
and my husband takes leftovers to work. He takes me out for dinner on Sat. night and no
fast food. I use coupons as much as I can. We were also taught that he helps those who
help themselves.

Heard on the news (also read it in the newspaper) a town in Mi. received the bad news that their water rate is going up 40% starting May.(no mistake, it is 40%, not 4%)

When will it end? I wish that our Congress would wake up to the struggling of their constituents and not be so involved in getting what is good for themselves. It is time for all of us Americans to band together and stop the runaway politicians! Eating meatless meals is good for our health. My dad lived to 96 and was a big vegetable eater and worked hard physically to supply his family with the necessary things to sustain life. If everything is going to be so expensive, including non-meat products, what can we do but remember those who make laws, etc. that work for the people in 2012!

I have cut in lots of places. I don't know how much more can be cut down. But it will help a lot if husband goes back to work. He has been in school for almost 2 years now. He is due to graduate in May.

I saw on the news that the price per barrel of oil came down some. I hope that means it will drop at the pump too.

This afternoon I went shopping for watermelons, cantalopes and honeydew for a fruit slad I'm taking to a church dinner Thursday night.
Small, very small, watermelons were $4.95 EACH. The other melons were even worse. I bought a very small container of blue berries to use as accent and it was the most expensive of all. Beyond belief.

Now that they are having the flooding problems in the South and they are flooding the farms to save the cities and towns, the prices of food will escalate even more. It is so sad. I feel for these poor farmers, too.
I use coupons all the time, buy on sale, buy large family size packages, cook the large package at one time and put it in the freezer. Try to stock up on food when it is on sale and have coupons.
