Stopped by Police!!

This morning all I had to do was take the clean towels and dish cloths and the nursery laundry to church.  After our dinner yesterday I collected all the "stuff", brought it home and got it clean before going to bed.
Thank goodness all I had to do today was return that to church, download the church dishwasher and get back home.  I wanted and needed a slow quiet day.... no cooking, no work at all.
On the way straight home  YIKES there was a police light behind me!!  I managed to pullover.  A very gentle, kind, polite officer told me my license plate had expired in SEPTEMBER, '10.  Huh?  I knew that was incorrect - it had to be - I got a new one in Sept. '09.
But my plates did show the '10 sticker.
The officer said he would not give me a ticket - I should just get to the license bureau as soon as possible and get the new one.
I went straight back to the bureau and told them what happened - they checked  their record and it showed I had bought a new sticker in Sept. '09 that would expire Sept. 11.  That meant someone had taken my sticker (they said that wasn't uncommon) so I had to go to the police dept and file a report .... then come back and get a new set of stickers for $2.00.
At the police dept., they checked my plates and said none had been removed -  yadda yadda  Their records showed such and such.   -  I should go to license bureau .......
.........................
It was so long, difficult and complicated.
Such a long complicated morning ...........  I paid $12.00  and got new stickers. $12 instead of $2 because it was all my fault.

Wow - I feel better after telling this.

When you are dealing with the law, you are never right. It is hard to deal with the stupidity and it is very frustrating. I guess $12 is better than $120.............

I guess I did sound like I was annoyed and upset with the local police.  It was a silly, bad (for me) situation but, wow, that officer was so polite and even gentle.
For many years I've taken - guess what - cookies to the city police station on Christmas Eve. They will be working while I'm at home warm and safe.

Did you ever notice the police are never wrong. I got stopped at an insurance checkpoint and they told me my license was suspended. Turns out they suspended the wrong license but still made pay $10 to renew it.
Needless to say I took it to the magistrate judge, a friend of mine, got my money back AND an unsigned letter of apology from the police dept. Go figure !!!

I too have been stopped for whatever and they of course are always right. One of my girlfriends is married to a police officer and when you sit down and talk with one your opinion would change, most are good family men and women and what they deal with on a daily basis, hardens some, most of the dealings they have are not pleasant to say the least.I too bake and take goodies to our airport where my boys work and give it to the police, you would not believe how appreciative they are.Right after 9/11 when the National Guard were on duty I baked for them also.I felt they protected us with their lives and made it so much more safe for my boys to do their jobs and I didn't have to worry as much.God bless all those who protect and serve us.

God bless and keep your son Renee.   Please tell him that I take cookies to the police station on Christmas Eve and I'm wishing some for him.
And this Christmas Eve is supposed to be miserable with ice and snow.  Ugh - I won't drive in that.  I'll get the cookies and candy there the day after Christmas.

LOL -- just remembered the many years on a military base ....... I delivered cookies to the MP office every Christmas.  Then the first Christmas in North Dakota, I just couldn't get to the office so I phoned!!  They sent a car to my house to pick up the treats.  That's a good memory.

Thats very nice Nancy,it makes you feel good and them even better.lol.When the Guard was at the airport Matt was quite young and one of the guys would march and salute and say good morning sir and that would just tickle him and he still talks about it and smiles. The Armed services, Police and Fire lay their very lives out for us on a daily basis.A few years ago one of the officers that we know at the airport was shot inside the airport trying to subdue a person and the person took the officers gun and shot him.The officers partner returned fire and killed the man responsible for the incident.Thank God my boys weren't there at the time, but the airport was crowded at the time,no one else was hurt.

I work in a Calif DMV field office and I hear these stories every day. We have seen an increase in theft of license plates and stickers.  Even an increase in theft of handicap placards and plates. Which really irks me.  What makes matters worse is we've also seen an increase in police officers that either don't understand how to read the data transmitted to them on their onboard laptops or they just don't care what the data says.  I've had improperly trained officers remove current stickers from the plates and cite drivers for having stolen stickers. In situations like that we waive the $18 fee and the judge usually throws the ticket out because the officer doesn't show at the hearing.  I was raised by a CHP officer, had an uncle that ran the county branch jail and have detectives for cousins.  Every day that they show up for work, they are putting their lives on the line.  And they are human, they not only put their pants on 1 leg at a time like the rest of us. They also make mistakes just like the rest of us.  I'll let you all in on a secret ~ those of us working at DMV also make mistakes ~ however the public expects perfection and can be very unforgiving when they don't get it.

Oh I so know what you mean! The police Dept. really don't know what they are talking about when they give you advice in that kind of situation. I'm sure they mean it with all good intentions but they really should have some kind of police/dept of motor vehicle session to get the information straight. We have had 2 situations where the info given by the police was completely wrong one was much more serious and could have cost us a lot of money and trouble if we had have reported it and had a report number on our own. My son had 1 license plate stolen, we believe from his high school parking lot. (in our state 2 plates are required) We promptly reported it -and it could have only been missing for 1 day at the most because my son had washed his car the afternon before and had the car in our driveway up until the time he left for school. We had a small ticket handed to us with a report number on it and were told we just had to report this to the motor vehicle dept. The next day we did so and were told not true we had to fill out a report and turn in the other plate so we would not be responsible for anything that happened if the stolen plate was put on another car while the plate was still out there registered to my son. A couple of months later a warrant was issued for my son's arrest for a hit & run, homicide and damages to another car in NYC which is approximately 50 miles away. First, my son had never driven to NYC, and second have never hit & run etc., etc., It turns out after a little investigation, it was the stolen plate and thankfully we had turned in the other plate and nit just reported a missing plate AND kept all the documentation from the original incident. My son could have been sitting in jail because he was the last report owner of that license plate - how would we have proved otherwise if we had listed to the police and just reported a missing plate or not saved any documentation?

As I said in another VBB forum ... On Christmas Day I took a big batch of cookies to the city police office ...the same ones who had a legal reason to stop me ... the same ones who once picked me and found me help.
I pray that God blesses and keeps them

Hey they not only took my sticker and plates they took the whole car! Used it for a bank robbery and the police came to my door to see if I knew anything about the robbery.  I told them NO did they know anything about my car and they said it would be released as soon as is was processed (6 months).  I had to get a new car to get back and forth to work so when we finally got our car back we had to sell it.
