I carry a purse, but have traded in leather for material. My husband usually gives me something to carry for him in my "SACK."

I buy purses only if it's on sale(for a low price) and it's something that I would actually use.  Most of the handbags I see in the stores now are not only crazy expensive but ugly to boot lol. Lucky you, Renee!  Usually my husband gives me things to put in "my" purse and then he wonders why it weighs a ton lol.

I cannot believe that people buy COACH bags that are so pricey and have no money. Can't understand the need for an expensive bag when I don't have that much money to carry in it.

I have not carried a purse for the past 10 years.....that was when my hip started bothering me, and it was difficult to manage a purse and managing a can to help me to walk without running into a wall or falling.  When I couldn't stand the pain anymore, I had a total hip replacement.  So.....walker.....than cane again....so no purse.  I carry my ID in the car and a money clip in my pocket.  That's all I need...the money I save from not buying purses is my "mad money".

Darla, is your hip good now after the replacement?  I had one nearly a year ago and I do anything I did before it started hurting.

The last purse I bought was on big sale at LL Bean.  It is canvas and has lots of compartments, zippers etc.  It is a shoulder bag and I got it for travel, but I like it so well I use it all the time.  There are many occasions when I don't carry a purse.  I put my ID and credit card in my pocket if I'm going to the gym and stopping to pick up some groceries on the way home.

lol lol --- I carried a Coach for.... hmmmmm 35 years?   A couple years ago when my last one gave out I bought a new "sack" at Walmart.  It didn't last 3 months so I bought a much better one at a J C Penney's sale.  ugh - It didn't last either so I glued it back together with fabric glue.   I have no idea what I'll do now and I NEED a new purse.

Nancy, do you have Ross' Loehman's, or Marshall's stores in your area? They sell the major stores' old inventory. I got a $300 Michael Kors purse at Marshall's for $65. There is something to be said for getting what you pay for!

Verlee - I've never heard of Ross' Loehmans.  I think there's a Marshall in St. Louis but I don't go there to shop.
I bought a great looking Coach on ebay for a good price.  A gorgeous purse arrived but the trim and bindings were
PLASTIC.  It didn't last long either.   I think maybe it was cheap copy.

I really USE a purse and I need a good, big one.

I wanted to reply to the post that this was not a site to sell purses, but did not want to make anyone upset with me.
I look at purses when I see a 1/2 off sale  & if I like one or two, I will buy & save till I need a new one. There was a time I had 4 stored in the closet, but since I have not seen any I would use, I am down to 1 spare. I do have a couple nice ones for weddings, church etc. but it is my every day go to purse that needs to be replaced every now & then.

I don't like "knock offs'.  You supposedly save some money but you also are cheating the original designer.  The copiers have taken advantage of someone else' creativity and hard workwhich really isn't fair.
I have no hankering for a fancy name designer bag anyway. Thrift store finds and bargain stores will do just fine.

I have a couple of really good purses, but I have had them for ages, and because they are good quality they last forever, it seems. ( Talk about run on sentences)

Carrying a pocket book, purse, whatever it is called now, has become a chore with advancing age. Arthritis makes it difficult and the bag is getting heavier as age advances. Most of my friends now carry the quilted cloth purses to " lighten the load."

Funny how it gets heavier as time goes on.  My father used to tease me about carrying an extra transmission for my truck in my purse.  i think it depends on what part of the country you are from what you call it.  We always called it pocket book.  Here in the midwest it is purse. I always thought of a purse as a little thing, as in change purse.
I got a nice canvas type shoulder bad from LL Bean on huge sale and I love it.  There's places for everything and it is great for travel
