When consulting with a dietitian to help with adjusting to Type II Diabetes, she gave me a helpful hint. 
There are no "forbidden" foods.  If you want it, you can have it BUT, if you eat it you must count it. 
Do you want to spend your carb allowance on that?   Will just a bite satisfy your desire for it?
Think it over, do you really want it or are you falling in the trap of a Seefood diet - you see it you think you want it.
All-you-can-eat buffets are not a good idea. 
Portion control and mindful eating are the key
Healthy eating can be delicious and satisfying.

Isn't it amazing..this is something that EVERYONE knows what to do and how to do it it is just so hard to make the right choices.  You have a slice of chocolate cake staring you in the face saying "eat me, eat me, eat me" and you have a plate of broccoli saying "no! eat me!, no! eat me!..who ya gonna listen to?   That's a no brainer..the cake wins almost every time.  Ok maybe not cake and broccoli but maybe cake and an apple.  Cake wins there as well.
Like I mentioned in a previous post the decision to lose weight has to come because YOU want to do it not for any other reason.  Same thing with making healthy choices.  It is something that you do because you want to.  You know you can have a piece of cake once in a while but the apple or broccoli has to win sometimes as well.
