My kitchen smells so delicious. Last week I hung for drying some sprigs of dill from my garden. I just now "peeled" the dill from the stems and put them in a jar for use in cooking. So aromatic.

I like to use real dill for pickles . It tastes a lot better then when you have to buy it
or use dill seeds from the store.

I love dill and use it in several of my recipes.It does smell wonderful.

I always use the dried dill in my veggie dip, redskin potato salad, and egg salad. Fresh
dill would be so much better. I am going to have to plant some.

Verlee and H.M., Does it spread like rosemary does or does it take longer to spread?
I started out with 1 little sprig of rosemary and it is about 6 feet wide and 2 to 3 feet tall.
This was approx. 7 years ago.

Carol, I grow my dill in a container on my back patio. I try to keep it going all year, but when we have a hot summer I find it can't survive. We live at 1800 ft. elevation in northern LA County, and often experience some high-desert type summer weather. I let some of the dill "go to seed", and start the next batch with those seeds in a small pot on my kitchen window sill. If you plant the dill in the ground, it will seed itself and spread. But in California I don't think it grows as "wild" as rosemary. I also have rosemary that will keep on growing, but I trim it back after it blooms.

Verlee, thank you for the info. I plant all my tomatoes in 5 ga. containers
because our dirt isn't very good and the tomatoes really grow good with
Miracle Gro for flowers and veg. with 3 month cont. feed. I have 27
tomato plants this year and just found 2 plants that came up from last
year so I will put them in pots and have a total of 29. Looks like I will
have a lot of tomatoes this year. I think I will start out with a little
smaller container of dill and see how that turns out. Thanks again for
your help.

We use fresh dill in creamed green or yellow wax beans.

I planted dill about 20 yrs. ago & it has kept itself going each year. I saw some yesterday about 2 in . high in 3 spots. I usually get enough to dry to keep me going till the next season. We like it in tomato soup, tomato juice, sometimes in scrambled eggs, on grilled cheese, deviled eggs, potato salad, mac. salad, & I have put it in tuna salad.

Hubby picked up a little container of dill at Home Depot. It is half dead. He said
it was the only one that was still alive. The other containers of dill were dead.
I guess they didn't water them. He got a dollar off the price. I sure hope I can
save it.

Dill is one of those things that once you have it in the garden you never really get rid of it lol. My Mom gave me some seeds when we first moved into this house over 25 years ago. Every year it comes back all over the garden. It's great for making pickles and adding to pasta dishes so I don't mind. If it's in a pot it's probably easier to control but the wind will carry the seeds all over. So you might find it coming up where you least expect it.

Wish we could keep rosemary in the garden all year long but our winters are usually to harsh for it to survive. Last time I brought one in the house I gave it to a friend of Mom's and he kept it going to the point where we donated it to a german club for one of their celebrations. It got to be so huge he almost couldn't get it in the car lol.

H.M., I would like to grow the dill on the hillside behind our house. I
like the idea of never really getting rid of it. lol I have a lady from my
TOPS group that will call me and ask for some rosemary so she can
make rosemary chicken. I cut a big branch off for her and take it to
TOPS. lol My rosemary is too big to get into a car. lol lol
