Fran - please, what's the recipe for your use of Smuckers Caramel?  I use it in a chocolate sheet cake, with a can of sweetened evaporate milk.

Thank you, thank you Fran ..... that sounds absolutely wonderful !!

One question - when a recipe calls for a small amount of whipping cream - what do you do with the rest?

Nancy, have you ever tried Oatmeal Carmelita Bars? They also use a caramel ice cream topping.  I get the jar of topping from Aldi's a 17 ounce jar for $1.89.  Unfortunately it is what they call a seasonal item so I have to stock up before the summer is over.  (Really, who uses ice cream topping only in the summer? I use it in recipes year round)
Oatmeal Carmelita Bar
2 Cups flour
2 Cups quick cooking oats
1 1/2 Cups packed brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 Cup butter softened
12 ounce package semi sweet chocolate chips
1/2 Cup chopped pecans
1 Cup caramel ice cream topping
3 Tb flour
Pre heat oven to 350
Line a 13X9 pan with parchment or lightly grease pan.
Mix the caramel topping and the flour together is a small bowl, set aside.
Stir together the first 5 ingredients in a large bowl.  Add butter stir or mix until crumbly.
Set aside half the mixture (about 2 1/2 Cups).  Press the rest in the bottom of a 13X9 pan.
Sprinkle evenly with nuts and chocolate chips. Pour the caramel topping over the nuts and chips.
Sprinkle with reserved crumble mixture.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until light golden brown.
Cool completely in pan on wire rack.  cut into bars.

Can be stored in air tight container at room temperature for 1 week or freeze up to 1 month.

I get annoyed at Aldi's "seasonal" items.  Who only bakes in the winter?  Who only uses cocoa or coconut in winter?  Baking powder is also a seaonal item.
I did get a real bargain on baking powder between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  The Argo brand was on sale at Schnuck's and I had a coupon from the sunday paper that was doubled.  it made the baking powder incredibly cheap.  I like the container as it has a place to level off the spoon.

I just buy the 1/2 pint & I try to use it up in 3 days, I just whip up enough to use for a little topping each day.I hate to tell how I will use it Embarassed
I have put some in a bowl & mixed in sliced bananas or other fruit, dipped cookies or graham crackers (even animal crackers) in it.  I have made jello & used a fork to scrape some in a bowl(makes small pieces) & mix with the whipped topping. I have used a little of it if making meatloaf or stroganoff & even a little in a milkshake.
