Amazing prices! What store?
I heard on the TV yesterday that one of the larger stores I shop will be leaving the area. Dominick's part of the Safeway group is pulling out.  If I'm lucky the one close to me will be taken over by my new but too far away favorite...Mariano's.  A Mariano's has been in Arlington Heights for a while and I traveled from Palatine to shop there once in a while then almost as soon as we moved from Palatine they built one there! My luck as soon as I leave this beautiful, wonderful house they will locate here!

I was shopping at a local Meijers yesterday and I was there very early and I found a lot of close out items! red peppers .79 a pound and a bag of bananas that were being closed out.  And best of all some stuffed Portabella mushrooms $2.99 for 2 they were stuffed with Krab and crab and a bunch of other stuff.  I got 2 packages and we had them for dinner last night.  Really pretty good.  I also found the Philadelphia flavored spread/dip for about $1.50 I got the caramel flavor I figure it will go with the apples and an apple crostada I plan on making. (they also had honeycrisp apples for $4.99 for a 5 pound bag!)

I love Grand Openings the prices are good but seldom do they last.  I do what I call "cherry picking" when it comes to sales I will get the sale prices at one store then go to another store.  It is pretty easy since shopping is one way to get my husband to walk so I do several short shopping trips a week then one day that he is in Adult Day Care I will do the majority of shopping.
It is sad to see big stores crushing little ones but I have to shop price and the little guys just can't buy in the volume that will allow them to meet prices. I do wonder what will happen now that our Dominick's will be leaving many of the markets. The one store that I do hope comes to this area, Mariano's, is a Roundy's store so with luck they will make it into the area.  Funny thing is I once heard that the guy that started Mariano's said he wanted to put Dominick's out of business...well he accomplished his task in a very short period of time.

I also "Cherry Pick" you almost have to to be able to eat well. There are five stores that I go to all within a short distance to the other,so I'm not wasting gas.Last week and this week I recieved a coupon from the new store Good Cents for $10 off a $20 purchase. They have ground chuck this week for $1.88 a pound so I'll use this coupon on the ground chuck.I'll repack into freezer bags in meal size packages.

A little hint for you...You can brown ground beef and freeze the the cooked beef.
It takes up less room once cooked as the grease is gone.
It is easy to use in recipes, make sauce and if you forgot to take beef out of the freezer dump in the frozen beef, it thaws as the sauce cooks.

I really hit the jack pot today. Our store has marked down groceries in a couple of carts up front.I got 4 cartons of vanilla rice milk,4 packages of granola,4 packages of ginger almond cookies,12oz package of organic coffee and a 12oz bottle of balsamic vinegar.Everything was marked .50 cents a piece.Needless to say I was a very happy person.I always check up front.Once they marked down discontinued air freshener and I had coupons I paid .04 cents a piece,I bought 10 not a bad deal for .40 cents! Love Mark downs and Coupons!

The other store I went to had butter for $1.89 a pound,Milk $1.89 gallon,Large eggs $1.05 a doz.A variety of 8oz.chunk cheese for $1.77,ground chuck for $1.88 a pound which was very lean, made dinner with it tonight  It pays to clip coupons, shop the sales and check for marked downs.

Check your  local store/stores to learn if a "FREE" class on using coupons and Store Policy to assist with your shopping will be offered. I attended a class Monday Night that a grocery store and the Local news paper held in a Grocery store.Trained personal conducted this class. The class will be held around the state to assist shoppers learn more about shopping. It is worth "ONE HOUR".

I WISH my store's mark down section was good enough to buy/use.  I wouldn't give my three dogs what's on the racks.  It's like they take off the shelves, forget for a few days then wrap & put out.  However if I found like your area, I'd be very happy buying & making new recipes.  The best deal we get in BOGO because the expiration date is close
