Better than getting a fast food burger for $ 1.00 plus tax (better tasting & healthier too).

Did the shopping Wed. because I wanted to go to another store & I try to hit all stores in one trip.  I saved 60% at one grocery store (got 10 cans of Campbell tomato soup for $ 4.90 with the sale & coupons, 4# boneless, skinless chicken breast for $ 6.99=$ 1.75#, 9 cans of organic peas for $ 4.41& a 32oz organic rice milk for $ 1.19 along with other sale items). I rarely buy organic because of being on a fixed income, but the sale & exp. date (2014) was too good to pass up. I doled out the chicken into 4 packs (each one enough for the 2 of us to have dinner with planned overs) before I put them in the freezer. I have never tried rice milk so I decided the price was right & if I did not like it, I could make hubby some pudding (he likes rice pudding Smile).  Kroger had some Kelloggs cereal on sale for $ 1.99 (less than 1/2 price) too bad I did not have coupons for them, but the exp. date is Mar. 2013 so I bought 4 rice krispies to make treats for the grandkids for the 4th of July, Thanksgiving & Christmas ( with the 2 boxes I had there will be more than enough since I usually use less than a box) bought some sharp cheddar(for mac. & cheese), a loaf of flax bread, 2 bottles of dishwasher gel & other items for under $ 30.00.  Got great looking celery, some bananas, bell pepper ( have some in the freezer, but needed a fresh one to make potato salad & cole slaw) frozen onion rings for hubby (I bake them & he does not get them that often) some yogurt for me, nice head of iceberg & a few other items AND all under budget for the week Money mouth

Try Family Dollar stores as well as Dollar Tree most will take coupons and the prices are a bit less than the grocery stores.  Make sure you look at expiration dates on food items. Check for dented cans.  I will not purchase a dented can but that is just a personal "thing" with me.

I check the exp. dates on everything that has one (last week I found 2 items that was really past the exp. date, one was Feb. 2012 & the other Jan. of 2012 & it was the middle of April) & I have never bought a dented can either. Years ago  a few stores would have a big bin or shopping cart with dented items reduced, but I could not bring myself to buy any.  If I dent a can at home, I open it right away & use it or put in the frig. to use the next day.

Went shopping Thr. & the store had a special sale (buy 8 of the items on a list & get $ 8.00 off at the register, limit 1 offer). I bought 2 Miracle Whip (yes, we like it) on sale, minus the special sale & a coupon ( I had 2 coupons) & paid $ 1.49 each (exp. date is Nov.) & I bought 6 Crystal Light green tea (makes 5 qts.) & paid $ 1.00 each ( I allow myself 16 oz. daily so that comes to $  .05 a day) the exp. date is 2014 which is great because I have enough to last me this year.  Kroger had a clearance on some Jello products so I bought some gelatin for $  .24 a box with exp. date of 2014 & I bought a box of Panko crumbs (with a coupon) for $ 1.24.
