Thr. while shopping I found 5 bags of Hershey's Pieces with whole Almonds in a crunchy shell 8 oz. reg. price $ 3.19 marked down to $  1.09 a bag. exp. date Oct 2012, so I bought all 5 bags.  $ 15.95 minus the $ 5.45 I paid = a savings of $ 10.50 (the next store I went to had them for $ 3.39 a bag.)  I will put some out for Valentine's day & Easter.
Do you think the benefit of the almond will help cancel out the empty calories? Undecided

Yesterday one store had the Hormel roasts (precooked and sealed) on sale for $4.99. Regularly $7.99 and in the Sunday paper was a coupon for $1 off.  I got pork roast for $3.99 which is enough for 2 meals for us.  I like to keep one when I'm in a big hurry.  Heat 4 minutes in the microwave and it is ready.

I needed bread today and when I went to the grocery I checked out the bargain buggy.  I found a couple loaves of the artisan bread that is usually nearly $4 per loaf.  Since the "death" date was today it was marked down to $1.49.  We had some of the dried tomato/rosemary for a cheese sandwich  for lunch and it was wonderful.  I put rhe whole wheat loaf into the freezer.

I bought 15# of onions & 10 green peppers for $ 5.90. I would have bought more (will use alot during Lent) but am low on Feb. grocery budget.  When I went to the next store(I do all stores in one day) I checked & a 3# bag of onions  was $ 2.49 & the other store had a 3# bag on sale for $1.99. The green peppers were $1.69# at one store & on sale for $1.00 each at the other.
PS all were the yellow cooking onions.

GRANA  here;It'sgetting more difficult to find" bargains" in the grocery store these days;
So many people are  takingthetime to be  clever about using  our tricks; reduced meat/produce & bakery items are harder to find...they're not put out till 10AM&  are usually gone before11AM.
Yesterdy hubby found a 6 pack of pistachio muffins(his fave) for only $1.60; reg $3.59.
Neither of us needs the fat or caloriess,  so we sharea large muffin, geting 12 servings for $1.60

Wittheexpected2 da snowstorm; thestorewasfilledw/othershoppers, stocking up for the posibility of beig snowed in for days;mik, bread, snack foods,in everyone'  shopping carts.
Surprisingly we stayed pretty close to our $50 budget.
Wegot  sliced ham:
2 1/4# pieces of ham steak & 1/2 # slicedthin forsandwiches.
a # of hick  cut roast turkey slices( for hot turkey & gravy plates)
3/4# sliced roast beef for wraps hot  roast beef w/gravy plates
6 containers of yogurt;[ breakfast; desserts&snacks, allspecialflavors( cinnamon apple; black chery, mango& pomegranate
 a bag of apples
 a bag of oranges
a bunch of 8 bananas
 pistachio muffins[12 servings]
 1/2 gallon of milk
 = dozen eggs
a pkg of sliced white individually wrapped  cheese slices( burgers & grilled cheese)
4 pkg my fave whole grain  bran muffin mix   (  a months supply)
a bag of  frozen blueberries ( for cereal & muffin baking)
2 cans of corned beef  hash
12 pack of diet gingerale for hubby

a can of slopyJoe sauce for sloppy Joes chili; a chili mac casserole. (hubby's
impule item& what put us over budget.
we'll be eating well for about a month only  needing  to  buy a few  fresh  items weekly[dairy & produce items].this should allow me to pick up  all the marked  down meats  I can find*& still stay w/in our weekly budget.

My Hy-Vee store had all Kellogg's cereals for 50% off.  I had 2 coupons for $! off 3, so got 6 boxes of cereal.  Hubby loves Raisin Bran and I got some All Bran for muffins.  We eat cold cereal in the summer and oatmeal in the winter.
Also Hy-Vee has a deal going with 4 coupons each week for 6 weeks for a free or reslly reduced price item.  With a $25 purchase I got a dozen large eggs free, a pound of little carrots for 18¢, a Pillsbury cake mix for 47¢ and a loaf of Sara Lee honey wheat bread for 87¢.  I guess I'll have to get $25 worth of groceries each week to take advantage of the great bargains.  Of course some weeks there will be stuff I don't use, like soda.  I think there's a free 12 pack of pepsi or coke I could get and take to work.  I'm sure somebody would drink it.
