Eating Healthy is what I love <333

Okay so i loveee to eat healthy , but of course i just lovee to bake! Of course when i bake something i just have to try it! Well since spring i've been baking a lot!, which has made me gain a few pounds! :( So now when i bake i substitute oil for applesauce, egg for egg substitute, sugar  for truvia, but for butter? I mean you really can't substitute it can you? I've tried using extra applesauce and the texture is off. I love trying new healthy recipes, but i also love to splurge every once in a while. If you have any ideas, just let me know :)

I love to eat healthy too Monica.  When I bake I usually use margarine instead of butter.  This cuts some of the fat and cholesterol.  In most things you really can't tell the difference but there are a few types of cookies where it does make it taste different.  Then I'll use the butter, and try to only have one cookie lol.

I usually almost always use margarine instead of butter i also use a lot of egg substitutes .

You have to be careful with the margarine.  Especially the whipped ones.  Some say right on the package "not good for baking".  But I use it often with fairly good results.  Can I tell it was not butter?  Sometimes.  But I KNOW I won't eat just one cookie!  LOL

If you do not like the texture when replacing applesauce for the butter try using 1/2 applesauce and 1/2 butter.  I would suggest draining the applesauce for a bit to make it a little denser.
In some recipes also try mashed banana rather than applesauce.
Also try the Greek style 0 fat yogurt for sour cream it works well and no one will notice.

Increase the flavorings to increase the flavor that fat helps to carry, so if the recipe calls for 1 teaspoon add 2 or 3 teaspoons.

I can't imagine a "healthy", low-calorie cookie.

I make cookies for a diabetic friend using sugar-free chocolate chips and Splenda but there's still lots of real butter.  (And she appreciates them but I sure won't eat one - I think they're awful)

Mary Jo, I always buy unsalted butter.  We get too much salt in our diets anyway so I cut where I can.  I don't use salt in some baked things, like the muffins I made yesterday.  Whole wheat flour and rolled oats are standard for me also.
