Hi Mary L ;
Tofu is well known for it's lack of flavor. It takes on the flavor of whatever sauce you use to prepare it. Nikki & I both like to use the hot pepper flakes to give it "ZIP".I use garlic, too; vinegar(cider or Japanese rice), curry powder, PB all lend their flavors to tofu
making it very versatile for those who enjoy cooking & eating.I have a quiche recipe, using tofu that  was my first introduction to anything made w/tofu. It was also myfirst quich & made  me a fan of both quiche & tofu for life! Ihave tasted tofu ri ght out of the pkg & YUCK,Tongue outI didn't like it either FrownGive tofu atry someday (in an Asian or vegeterian restaurant); where they (hopefully)Undecided know what they are doing w/tofu:"TRY IT, YOU MIGHT LIKE ITWink

There are many vegan sites that will give great tips and recipies.  I am in Virginia Beach and last year we had "pot luck" vegan style in my back yard. I was much more of a turn out that I thought. What a great group and the food was so good my meat eating teen son ate the vegan food.

Although the recipes sound interesting, I have to agree with John.  My daughter bought some tofu once and left it in the fridge.  About a week later she opened it, took one whiff and threw it out.  Needless to say we've never had any more in the house.   But bon appetit to all who like it.

I haven't ever cooked with Tofu, but I have tried those Tofu Cutie ice cream bars.  They weren't bad.

In Response to Re: Cooking with Tofu???:
I have done a spicy green bean stir fry with tofu.  I will get the firm tofu, cut it in half and save half for another meal.  The half I am going to use I will cut that in 1/3's place it on a kitchen towel and weight it down to remove more moisture.  Then after several hours or overnight I cut it into cubes or strips, depends on how I feel. Place a bit of oil in a fry pan and brown the tofu, add frozen green beans and a bit of water to steam them.  Then I will add some hot and spicy oriental sauce, a bit of siracha and hoisin combined or other sauce I found at Trader Joe's  Sort of depends on what strikes my fancy.  Even a mixture of red pepper flakes, water, soy sauce and peanut butter makes a good sauce.

Hi NIKKI;   I've been making  ginger chicken & green beans for a long time; (a long time fave when dining out). You've inspired me to try extra firm tofu( strips) instead of chicken...I expect it should work out fine & we might have a new fave meatless  dish to enjoy at home Cool

I remember seeing this on an episode of Good Eats on the Food Network so I thought I would share it.
Chocolate Mousse Pie
2 Cups chocolate chips
1/3 Cup coffee liqueur
1 Block silken Tofu
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 Tb honey
1 prepared chocolate crumb crust
In a heat proof bowl melt chocolate chips with coffee liqueur over simmering water.  Stir in vanilla extract.
Combine silken tofu, chocolate mixture and honey in blender and puree until smooth.
Pour into prepared crust.
Refrigerate until set.

I have not tried this yet.  Ann, you may be the first to try this please let me know if it tastes as good as it sounds.  Would probably be very good with the New Dark chocolate chips if they ever make it to this area.

I called the Meijer's store and they have the dark chips.  I will be getting some when I head out in that direction on Sunday.
Bad thing is they are in a smaller bag and about .50 more than the semi sweet chips.  So I will be picking my recipes with care.

Yikes Nikki!  Here the new 10 oz. dark chocolate  are the exact same price as the 12 oz. semi sweet.  I wonder why Meijer's is doing that ???
