BLUEBERRIES:Don’t let their miniature size fool you – blueberries are proof that, when it comes to health benefits, good things really do come in small packages. Especially in small, blue onesThe health benefits of blueberries are even bigger than you might know. They’re low in fat, have just 80 calories per cup, and scientific studies show that blueberries contain substances with antioxidant properties1. Antioxidants help to neutralize free radicals, which are unstable molecules linked to the development of a number of diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease and other age-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s.Blueberries are high in Vitamin C, which promotes a healthy immune system, and manganese, which plays an important role in bone development. They’re also a good source of dietary fiber, which contributes to heart health, helping to keep cholesterol in check.With just 80 calories per cup and virtually no fat, blueberries offer many noteworthy nutritional benefits. Here’s the skinny on blueberry nutrition;

Blueberries are packed with vitamin C.In just one serving, you can get 14 mg of Vitamin C – almost 25 percent of your daily requirement. Vitamin C aids the formation of collagen and helps maintain healthy gums and capillaries. It also promotes iron absorption and a healthy immune system1

Blueberries are dynamos of dietary fiber.Research has shown that most of us don’t get enough fiber in our diets. Eating foods high in fiber will help keep you regular, your heart healthy and your cholesterol in check. A handful of blueberries can help you meet your daily fiber requirement1,2. What a tasty way to eliminate this worry from your day!Blueberries are an excellent source of manganese.

Manganese plays an important role in bone development and in converting the proteins, carbohydrates and fats in food into to energy – a perfect job for blueberries3Blueberries are leaders in antioxidant activity According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), blueberries are near the top when it comes to antioxidant activity per serving (ORAC values).  Antioxidants work to neutralize free radicals — unstable molecules linked to the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease and other age-related conditions such as Alzheimer’s. Substances in blueberries called polyphenols, specifically the anthocyanins that give the fruit its blue hue, are the major contributors to antioxidant antioxidant activity5. Requirement. Vitamin C aids the formation of collagen and helps maintain healthy gums & capalaries. It also  promotes iron absorption and a healthy immune system>

Hi Ann.  I'm back.  I was ill for 2 months or so.  Not weak anymore.  Still working on some issues.  Bood work not done yet.
Thank you for the vital info on Blueberries.  I love them by the handfuls, in muffins.  Yum, so good.  I think I'll add them to my shopping list today!  You are a great Marketing/Sales person for the Blueberry Industry!

What happened to the corn?  It was not there the next day?
Have a Great Week-end.

Picking blueberries was my summer job from age 8  thru high school!
My uncle owned the blueberry patch. I had to pick with my mom because
I was too young to pick by myself. That was how I earned money for all
my clothes. The more I picked the more clothes I got. My sisters and I
ate enough blueberries to last a lifetime.  I still like blueberries.  I
usually make blueberry teacake and muffins.  Sometimes I will make
smoothies.  Yum!

I've never really liked blueberries.  I buy them to add to things I'm making for someone else ... like the trail mix cookies - but I never buy any for myself.

My blueberry experience: About 35 years ago my husband and I went canoeing in the Minnesota Boundary Waters, outside Ely, MN, with good friends of ours. Towards the end of our week on the waters, we found a wild blueberry patch. Two of us picked blueberries for quite awhile (eating plenty too) until we had enough to make blueberry cobbler. We rolled the 'dough' out on our canoe paddles! Our guide brought a little solar camping oven along, and we successfully baked the cobbler in that oven. It was the best cobbler I've ever eaten.

So glad there is another person who does not care for blueberries (when the neighbor would make her daughter blueberry muffins, the smell would give me a headache). Last year I bought some thinking that maybe I would be able to eat them mixed in a salad, or on cereal, even with ice cream, I still do not like them & will not buy them again (ugh Tongue out)
