I do not use coupons lightly. I obtain items at wonderful low prices, sometime free or receive a refund.

It is a sign of the times.  Everything is going up.  I try to buy stuff when it is on sale and use coupons to help bring down the cost.  Also, I buy several of the items so I will have them on hand when I need them.

I know it is something that many people do not want to do but if you qualify for programs like food stamps, WIC, food pantry or any other program that helps out then you should apply.  Any little bit will help and for most of the programs you are helping to subsidize them with your taxes.  Take advantage of the help that is available. Help with a food bill may allow you to afford other items that you may delay purchasing.
Moms or Dads with children if you have a nearby Health Department most provide immunizations for free. Or possibly on a sliding scale fee basis.  Adults are able to get flu shots.
Community colleges that have classes that certify people for dental assistants, massage therapy may have clinics where you can get services at reduced cost.  I go to a local beauty school and get hair cut and colored for less than $25.00, sure it takes a bit longer but I am saving about $100.00 or more over a full service salon.

All the little things add up!

Most Sunday papers carry Coupons. Purchase a Sunday paper the coupons are worth the price. Trade unused coupons with others.

How sad that everything keeps going up in price.  We will have to pick and choose.

As a retiree living on SS, it is very difficult shopping and buying gasoline. Gasoline seems to make the prices accelerate and with SS not getting a cost of living increase, will we be eating cat/dog food? I feel as if I am returning to my childhood when we didn't eat meat every day and walked to most places we needed to go. My parents didn't even own a car when I was young.

Try being a senior citizen without a raise for several years and you know what it is like to have to save wherever you can.

FYI - The US did not instittue the embargo.  A month long embargo on cocoa products was instituted by the recently elected president of the Ivory Coast because the former one refuses to step down.  This area is now in essentially a civil war, with UN troops trying to keep supplies running.  Before we worry about how much more we have to pay for our products, maybe we should think a little about the farmers and producers of these products world wide who are unable to sell their products and make a living because their country now won't allow sales.  The 'large corporations' are NOT profiting from increased prices - they are simply passing along the cost of doing business to the next level.  On a simpler scale: If you bake a chooclate cake to sell, and all the ingredient prices have gone up, don't you increase the cost of that cake to cover your expenses?
A little food for thought for those of us lucky enough to live in Wester Society.

Nancy, talk to your tax preparer.  I do not know if this would qualify bit find out if it would be possible to deduct the ingredients as a charitable donation.
If it qualifies great if it doesn't no harm in asking.

Nikki, I knew Aldi's originated in Germany but did not know about  the connection to Trader Joes.  I love shopping at Aldi's.  Soups like Cr of Mushroom, Cr. of Chicken are .48 cents a can & taste like Campbells.  There cheeses are cheaper, block, shredded etc.  They now have fresh Mozarella, Havarti, Gouda, Ricotta, fresh Asiago, Parmesean/Romano at half the price of other stores.  Walmarts 32 oz chicken broth has gone from $1.00 to $1.78 but Aldi's price up from .99 to $1.19.  They, also, have fresh salsas exactly as other stores but @ 1.99 each.  I could write a book of why I go there!!  You are right about the veggies and sales at other stores. You have to watch.  They have refunded my money and replaced the product.  I had a shredded cheese that molded and it was new and they replaced it.  I know my prices and keep up with weekly sales too.  I am not sure where Aldi stores are.  My friends in Florida would love to have one to shop.

Another interesting thing about Aldi's is the prices are marked on the product.  It is coded onto the top of the can or the box and it is an understandable code.  For example a box cake mix I have is (M100  88CT) then there is a use by date  A box of vanilla wafers has the code (M101.19CT) I paid $1.19 for the vanilla wafers and 88 cents for the cake mix.
Now as long as I have the vanilla wafers out I think I am going to make the Vanilla Tea Cake.  I have the coconut and the pecans.  And I picked up some sour cream on a close out...
My friend in Maine would love to have an Aldi's there as well.
