FYI - The US did not instittue the embargo. A month long embargo on cocoa products was instituted by the recently elected president of the Ivory Coast because the former one refuses to step down. This area is now in essentially a civil war, with UN troops trying to keep supplies running. Before we worry about how much more we have to pay for our products, maybe we should think a little about the farmers and producers of these products world wide who are unable to sell their products and make a living because their country now won't allow sales. The 'large corporations' are NOT profiting from increased prices - they are simply passing along the cost of doing business to the next level. On a simpler scale: If you bake a chooclate cake to sell, and all the ingredient prices have gone up, don't you increase the cost of that cake to cover your expenses?A little food for thought for those of us lucky enough to live in Wester Society.
