Gee, I did not know there were so many flavors of cookie mix. I just wrote "dry cookie mix" on my list for next week, I want to check out what the stores carry.

YOU CAN NEVER GET TOO MUCH CHOCOLATE!!!
the  "bar" is very good-------- i had some last night w/ homemade vanilla ice cream
the reason i baked them this way was that i could bake all of it at the same time-----without straining my back too much----but i will make them again

different from the cookie just like the chocolate chip ones are--------mavbe i should have kept this post to the other discussion------------if i've confused some about flavors--------------------but i was referring to a CAKE MIX-------------

The cookie sounds great, but I'm not sure about the salt.  I'm not a big salt fan and it is hard to imagine it would make the cookies better.  They sound wonderful without.

I saw your post a few days ago and I am confused about your comment about salt.
In this bar cookie I do not add any salt.  The only salt would be in the cookie dough.
Salt in most recipes enhances flavors it is not supposed to be a prominent flavor. The only ones I have seen recently where salt is added as a "garnish" is the salted caramel bars. And that could be omitted if you did not want the extra salt.

GRANA here;
 Hi
NIKKI P
Thanks for what appears to be a terrific recipe  [just added to my recipe file] easy&  yummy , especially w/  a PB cookie  base; &  toped w/  chopped peanuts

In Response to "New" Bar Cookie:
My Grandson wanted some cookies yesterday.  It was a bit warm so I figured the best way was a bar cookie. I made a batch of sugar cookie dough.  (It was from a mix) I Preheated the oven to 350 just as the recipe stated. I pressed the dough into the bottom of a 13X9 pan and tossed it in the oven for about 8 minutes. While that was baking I poured a can of Sweetened Condensed milk in a bowl along with 2 Cups of chocolate chips.  Heated it until the chips melted and stirred until smooth. Took the half baked cookies out dropped the chocolate over the top by the spoonful. ( the mixture was pretty thick so it was difficult to pour and spread.) Put the pan back in the oven and baked another 20 minutes Very good.  He named them Chocolate Wonder Bars.  We discussed what other cookie base would be good with the chocolate fudgy filling.  We really could not come up with one that would not work but decided that Peanut Butter cookie dough would be awesome. I will write this out as a "real" recipe and put it in my recipe box so if anyone wants it you are more than welcome to try our Chocolate Wonder Bars.

The "recipe" was/is in the first post.
I used a sugar cookie mix, one package.
1 Can sweetened condensed milk
2 Cups chocolate chips
Pre heat oven to 350
Mixed cookie mix according to directions.
Patted it into a 13X9 pan
Baked for 8 minutes.
In a sauce pan heat sweetened condensed milk and chocolate chips until melted and smooth.
Pour over cookie base.
Bake for another 20 minutes.

If you wanted to make the base a bit thinner hold back about 1 Cup of the cookie dough and drop bits of the cookie dough over the chocolate then bake as directed.
Any cookie dough would be good, I think a peanut butter cookie dough would be great.

We must be living right...first book I checked and here it is....

Double Chocolate Dreams
1 package Devils food cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 Cup vegetable oil
2 Cups semi sweet chocolate chips
3/4 Cup chopped nuts
Pre heat oven to 375
Grease baking sheets, or use parchment paper.
In a large mixer bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, and oil.
With a wooden spoon or on low speed mix for 1 minute or until blended.
Dough will be stiff.
Stir in chips and nuts.
Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets.
Bake 8 to 12 minutes.
Cool one minute on a wire rack, then transfer to rack and cool completely.

I bet you could take the same recipe use the spice cake, pecans and butterscotch chips.  OR
Spice cake, pecans and coconut.
Spice cake, pecans and little bitty bits of caramel squares chopped into bits. (that actually sounds pretty good to me)
Spice cake, pecans and white chocolate chips.
Spice cake, pecans, dried cranberries and white chips.

All from the mind of Nikki  ;) hope one of these sounds good to you.

LOL LOL >>>>> oh, Nikki, yesterday I bought my box of cake mix - Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge Cale Mix.   Now I think your spice sounds even better.  Do I have to try BOTH?  LOL ..... just what I need - more cookie recipes.

"Caramel squares chopped into bits" ....... for cookies I use the Kraft Caramel Bits.  I love 'em - I don't have to unwrap or chop.  I'm not crazy about them for caramel apples but they sure are good in cookies.

Let me know how the spice ones turn out if you try them.  They do sound tasty and a bit of a change from the usual cookie.
