I want to recommend Nestles new Dark Chocolate morsels.   They are REALLY good.  The cookies I made are a true delight. I wish they came in a 12 instead of a 10 oz bag but that's

I saw  white chips last week for $2 so got a couple bags to make more peppermint bark.  Candy canes were on close out for 50¢ so I got a box of those.  Now I can make relatively inexpensive peppermint bark.  It went over well with everybody.

I know I might have missed them, but did anyone see the dark chocolate/mint chips in the store this year?  Those made the best mint chocolate bark!

Chips of any color on sale?  Wow.
The candy canes are 50 cents and I am confident that next week they will be 25.
hee hee - I consider myself a candy cane expert.

Lina, just know that some of the Nestles chips bags are not 12 ounces, so your recipe needs to be adjusted or your goodies come up short on the chocolate end. lol The dark chocolate chips are 10 oz., and butterscotch is 11 oz.

Verlee -- 10 oz, 11 oz, 12 oz ......... I don't care - lol lol lol.  No matter what the size of the bag, I use 1 & 1/2 bags for a batch of cookies.  Works every time   Laughing

Last night I made 4 batches of cookie dough to bake this morning.  Oh, it was HOT.  But I got everything baked and put in the freezer.
Tomorrow is supposed to be much cooler so tonight I'm making more dough.
The first will be a big batch of DARK chocolate chip cookies.
I make so many cookies but the favorite is always chocolate chip.

The new dark chocolate morsels are great. They are larger in size than the semi-sweet and other flavors. They are very rich and great in your recipes. I use them in place of the other flavors in my favorite recipes.

They were out for a limited time at the hoildays. I make my own using the dark, semi sweet or white morsels. Just put in a zip lock bag and add ¼ teaspoon pure peppermint extract, shake it up and let it sit over night. If you don't have overnight use 1/2 teaspoon. It is better if they sit overnight and have time to absorb the flavor. I use them in all my favorite recipes until mixed ones are back at Christmas time.

Kelly...I just had a "Duh" moment when I read your solution for the mint chips.  Why did I never think to add an extract to the chips and let it sit and absorb the flavor.
I just may have to try this with almond flavoring for my next batch of cookies.
Thank you for the idea and reading all the posts from people that miss the mint chips when the season is over I am sure you have helped lots of my friends here.

Thanks Nancy, I will have to look for these too.  Dark chocolate is very good for you and given the choice between different chocolate I usually pick the dark lol.  I wonder if they can be used to make fudge?  Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I now use dark chocolate bits in my cookies.  There's a recipe called Slutty Brownies that is going around.  It is a layer of chocolate chip cookie dough, a layer of Oreo cookies and the top layer is brownie batter.  One can either use premade dough and brownie mix or scratch recipes for both.  I did the scratch recipes and the finished product was well received.  Everyone wanted the recipe.

GRANA here;
HI NANCY G;
We tried w d them & you are so right; they are terrific , similar to semisweet morsels but w/ a bit more cacao(sp) making their flavor more intense& satisfying. I added them to my  banana muffins turning them into a "real treat"  we've been enjoying for days since I took them out of the oven Tongue out
yum yum yum

We love the dark chocolate chips and use them quite a lot in our baking.  I still prefer using the semisweet chips when making my chocolate fudge frosting, but I load up the cake or brownies with the dark chocolate chips.  And, as my usual habit since I was little, I always "sneak" a couple of chips to enjoy just for myself.

I haven't seen the dark chocolate on sale anywhere this year yet but the store I went to this morning has the white chips on sale for 99 cents a bag.  Unfortunately that store doesn't like to take internet coupons Frown.
