Nancy, you make so many different kinds of cookies do you have a favorite?
Let me guess...The White Island Chip Cookies.....I can never recall the "real" name of them but I know what I am looking for when I want to make them.  I can almost picture the inside of your kitchen cabinet door moving one current favorite to eye level only to get replaced with another in a month...

Oh, my favorite...
Home made...gotta be the Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe that I got from The Chew when Jacques Torres was on the show.  Amazing chocolate chip cookie!
Store bought..There is a grocery store here Dominick's and they have a "Chewie" cookie I think it is a Triple Chocolate Chewie and it is very good if I could duplicate it....
As far as Girl Scout Cookies go, I can not put them in the store bought category, Thin Mint and the shortbread one that has caramel and coconut on it.  I know both are sold in stores year round but I only buy these once a year....

You're right, Nikki --- my favorite frequently changes.  Nestlé's Mint Chocolate Delights is a very good chocolate cookie ........ the mint chips aren't available except a couple months a year. but it's a great recipe to use other ways.
And Andes mint chips make any cookie very special.

nikki,
my Kroger carries a triple chocolate cookie also around 6.00 dozen  large cookies
when I break down and buy a dozen       I wrap individually ad freeze most of them  so I don't sit down and eat all at once
I love one w/ homemade vanilla ice cream
here the girl scout's have 2 different bakeries and I haven't found the s'moas since the child I know is not in the association that has that baker

I also like the ready to bake nestles     decadent walnut       much easier for me to bake a few at a time

I sent the recipe via private message Nellie!  It's very easy and depending on the size balls you make you can get a ton!  These are great little cookies to have with coffee or tea! They also have a decent shelf life if they last that long! Wink  They are very very addicting!

I'm home from shopping ..... ready to stir up cookie dough.
But, once again - I think it's my 37th comment - this recipe calls for melting chocolate chips with BUTTER!!
I am so afraid to do that ........ for the 37th time .......... is it possible to melt chips with butter?
Isn't that supposed to be shortening?

Nancy, place the chips in a bowl with the butter, I put the butter on the bottom.
Here is the hard part.
Place the bowl over a pan of warm water on low to medium low.  The heat will melt the butter and the chips will magically melt along with the butter. Have a glass of Iced Tea and they will be ready when you are done with the tea. Stir until smooth if they are still lumpy, you drank the tea too fast.
This should take 4 or 5 minutes.

If you really want to do this in the microwave butter first, chips and zap the way you normally do.  I do about 10 seconds, stir a few more seconds and stir again. As you can tell I really don't like melting chips in the microwave.

My Sachertorte cookies are finished!!!  I are ONE (they are already assigned to a good home) and it was a real treat.
Now I'm making a second batch using a dark chocolate and strawberry jelly.
Oh, I love making cookies!!
Thanks again, Renee
......................................................
Nikki-- I couldn't add butter to the chips, couldn't do it - I just sealed them in a little zip-lock and nuked them for 60 seconds, cut off a tiny corner and squirted them over the cookies.

And - now I've stirred up a batch of plain oatmeal cookies.  I'll bake them in the morning ..... after I've baked a batch of those Kris Kringle things.   That family I love so much will appreciate cookies and for the 4th of July I'll take lots of cookies to the city police dept.
