This is a great cookie, one of my husband's favorite.  It originally uses a 4 oz bar of bittersweet chocolate ( 60-62 cocoa) that you chop up into chunks, but I just used 1/2 bag of the Dark Choc

Yesterday I got 4 bags of dried cherries at WalMart -- they got them in!!   So I'm ready to bake some more.

Barbara, what do you know a "healthy" cookie. Dark chocolate, oatmeal, pecans, dried cranberries and or cherries.  I can feel myself getting younger and "prettier" with all the antioxidant's that there must be in these.

Barbara,
Thanks for posting, the cookies sound good, I like cranberries & did not think of adding them along with morsels & nuts to oatmeal cookies.  I think I will use walnuts instead of pecans (they are $8.99# here & I really like walnuts).

Nancy,
I also have not seen the dark cho. morsels, but I did buy a few bags of the dark cho. & mint morsels. I sat myself down with a cup of tea & a plastic glove & seperated the chips (there were more dark cho. than mint in the bag).  I will do the same with another bag soon.
I mixed some of the mint chips in vanilla ice cream & drizzled with cho. syrup & shared with a friend who thought it was better than the cho. mint chip ice cream she bought at the store (she said not 1 taste was over powering) I myself like a little more mint taste.  I told her I seperated the bag because I could not find a bag of dark cho. & she said she had used frozen dark cho. candy bars pieces in some recipes. The next time that other brand large candy bars are on sale, I will buy a dark cho. & try it.

Fran,  I don't know what state you live in but in southern CA, San Diego area, I have found
Nestle's dark chips at Target. They don't have them at Walmart. If you are near a Meijer's
store, they have them. VBB said to ask the manager of the store to order them!! Hope this
helps you.

Fran, I'm in the SF Bay area and I also found the dark chocolate chips at Target in San Ramon. Before I started using them in these cookies, I used a 4oz bar of bittersweet chocolate. That starts with "G" and is 60 cacoa.

I made this cookie and gave it away to three different folks along with a few other goodies.  Got good feedback from them about this cookie being very tasty.  Husband really like it, too.  I had to break down and try a bite even though I'm really attempting to lose 20 pounds.  The small was awesome.

Should have read my previous post before I hit that button.  I meant to say "the smell was awesome".

Tonight at church I got several nice "thank you"  from people who had tasted these incredible cookies.
The minister's wife asked for the recipe for "those delicious new things".  She said she had never tasted anything like those.   And- lol - the minister started his sermon talking about our health ... and he said he ate so many great cookies during the afternoon that he couldn't talk about weight. "It was the Cookie Lady's fault!!"
Wednesday night I'll take her the printed recipe, a bag of dark chips and a bag of cherries.

Last night I really got to thinking about such good "new" cookies ..... these Chocolate Chunk Oatmeal Cookies with Pecans and Cranberries certainly are new around here.
On the 19th a group of singers from a Bible college are coming here...... after the service we'll have a great meal with lots of treats.  I'm going to start baking the new cookies and have many, many for that night ......... enough for the singers to load up for their trip and enough for everyone to take a sample bag home.  And I'll print the recipe a dozen times.

Carol - right this minute I'm bent over the computer table ...... left arm flat and Peaches thrown over it and sound asleep.

Carol & Barb, I live in Mi.   (Our sons were born in San Diego, but that was  long ago)
Our Target is not the super store & the prices for the food that they do carry is really high.
Meijer got the dark cho. & mint morsels after the holidays (I bought a few bags because they were marked down) & never did get the holiday toppers in. They got a few of the Easter toppers in & I bought some even though the price was high. I asked about the dark cho. & was told the warehouse did not send them any & maybe I could try another store. With our gas as $ 4.39 a gal. I was not driving to another store just for the morsels Money mouth

Here I go again ..... yesterday I made two batches of these (one batch without nuts for the family that doesn't eat them).
This afternoon I'm going to make two more batches.
And on my last trip to WalMart I bought all the dry cherries they had left - 5 bags.  I wonder when they get new shipments.
I assume that bags of dry cherries are not a Big item that gets lots of stocking.
