My husband has a sweet tooth.  Often when our kids were young. I would go to the pantry to get a bag of chocolate chips to make cookies only to find the puffed bag nearly empty with maybe 3 chips

That is so funny. At least it is to me, I am not the one that is going to find I have no chocolate chips when I go to make cookies.
I almost bet anyone that has a household has run into that problem. Chocolate chips missing, a bag of caramels, the nuts you planned on adding to fudge or cookies. The half of a pint of ice cream that you wanted to sit down and eat after a really bad day only to find that someone beat you to it.
All this teaches you that you have to find real good hiding places if you plan on making something with an item that others love. (Tough thing is when you yourself forget where you put the ingredients....been there, done that..)

Well .......... you could always call me I probably have 5 or 6gallons of ice cream in my freezer and (no exaggeration) 20-25 bags of semi-sweet, 7-8 bags of white chips , several bags of the "flavored" chips. I'm not short on nuts either.

I buy the 72 oz bags of chips at Costco, but I still run out....I have chip stealers in my house too. I must admit that I am one of them, but not the only one.

And today, on my way home from church cleaning, I went to WalMart. (Of course, I went to WalMart - I always go to WalMart )
Just to be on the safe side I bought more two bags of white Nestles Chips.
Boy, that stuff is good in their regular chocolate chip recipe.

And a bit ago I made a batch of those Mexican Wedding Cakes, Sandies - whatever you call them. The dough is in the fridge and I'll bake them before I go to bed.

Nancy, Your comment that you are not short on nuts is pretty accurate!!! LOL
Sad thing is I pretty have the same in my "pantry". I just don't have that much ice cream. (I wish I did though)

nikki -- every time I go to the store I promise myself that I won't buy ice cream. Hey, I broke my 42 year addiction to cigarettes, now I can give up ice cream.
Nope, I just buy more.

I would much rather you have a freezer full of ice cream than smoke a cigarette. Both my parents died of smoking related cancer so I am not a fan of cigarettes. Congratulations on giving them up. I know it must have been very hard. How long have you been "smoke free"? I bet your cookies taste sooooo much better now!!!!

I found nestles milk chocolate ...semi sweet chocolate and white chocolate chips at Walmart for a dollar a bag on sale....bought 20 bags and froze them so i can make cookies when i get the urge and if the family asks me to ...

Nikki - I had my last cigarette on Oct., 10, 2005 ... 5 years ago. Big deal for a happy smoker like me - I LIKED my cigarettes and enjoyed them. But that brain tumor had reared its ugly head and I was walking into the hospital for the first test - VEEG..... ugh.
I knew I'd have lots of in-hospital testing, then the surgery. I figured it all would be easier without wanting a smoke.

One visit to the neuro surgeon -- he was holding his little model of the human brain and talking. I interupted him to say I hadn't had a cigarette in so many months. He set down that model, removed his glasses, bowed his head for a few seconds, then looked up at me and said. "Nancy, you quitting smoking is more important and better for you than what I'm going to do."
Then he went back to fast talking about the human left temporal lobe.
