Hello MICHAEL B<
Ok all you bakers out there, I need a little help here. I am a divorced Dad with two teenagers at home. I grew up with baking a lot and remember cookies coming out of the oven and being somewhat oval shaped and flat on the bottom, being about 1/2" to 3/4" thick. They were nice and chewy and tasty. But for some reason that is not the case anymore. We like to bake from scratch, we buy a 72oz bag of Nestle's Chocolate Chips from the warehouse club and it doesn't last too long around here. Actually more than half of the cookie dough doesn't make it to the oven it is just as good raw as baked. When we do bake cookies they come out flat as a pancake. They still taste OK but not as good as I remember. Somebody suggested to my daughter that it was because of using old baking soda, we dumped th eold stuff and tried fresh bought baking soda. No change. We have tried using margarine instead of butter, no difference. For whatever reason the cookies just do not rise or maybe I should say they just melt flat. I guess I should say that I use the Original Toll House Recipe from the package. Well that is it. I hope somebody has a solution for me. Thanks in advance, I will anxiously await a fix.
